  • Damn they cashed out!! Saw the article on Jamaicaobserver too. 8m or even 5m for both is a good pay out for any type of lawsuit. I know they're laughing like right now.

      More importantly; can you think of another "doping" case where this has happened?

        This of course assumes the company has the money to pay them...

          The lawsuit was for $8M, but the settlement amount remains undisclosed. Presumably it's significantly less than $8M, otherwise the company would have gone to court instead of settling.

            Since it's a settlement and not a judgment, the company probably had to demonstrate their ability to pay to the satisfaction of the attorneys representing Simpson and Powell. And a company wouldn't agree to a settlement that would push them into bankruptcy.

            • Asafa and Sherone finally vindicated

              The company was being sued for US$8 million dollars. I hope the settlement amount is close to this

              =============================================

              Sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson have reached an out-of-court settlement with Dynamic Life Nutrition the company that made the supplement Epiphany D1 which contained the banned substance oxilofrine.

              Powell and Simpson had sued the company earlier this year after discovering that the supplement included ingredients that were not listed on the label.

              In the meantime, Dynamic Life Nutrition has stopped selling the product.

              • I am happy that they are finally vindicated. Posts like these won't garner a lot of attention but such is life. People in general feeds off negativity!!

                • I think that in those cases where it has been proven the manufacturer was at fault by not labeling the offending drug, then any "convictions" should be vacated.

                  • It's a damn shame that news like this doesn't garner more attention. The Media and others are all too ready to burn athletes at the stake without due process. I'm happy for Sherone and Asafa, they can finally move on.

                      Yes, it is a shame.

                      • Both journalists and fans of our sport are doing it a disservice. We gravitate to drug scandals and athletes who get cited for simple stimulants and or overturned sentences are treated by both entities as outcasts. Many times our biases overrule the facts and we drag those we don't particularly like through the mud taking the sport with them.
                        I do not remember watching a LaLiga or Premier League football match or an NFL game and hear the commentators talking about who got busted for orchestrated drugs use (Gay/Gatlin) or who got busted for a stimulant (Powell/Simpson) or who had their verdict overturned (Ottey/VCB) or who mistakenly took a banned substance (Rodgers/Frazer-Pryce) yet watch a track event and the journalists harp on these things.
                        Sad to say people like Powell and Simpson will never be the same in the sport even with this lawsuit victory as journalists and bloggers on here will ensure that never happens.
