The USOC, on the other hand, voted to go along with the US Government's demand that we boycott. It was a vote that all of our individual sports' governing bodies participated in, including representatives of winter sports that had already participated in the Winter Games earlier that year. They could have voted the other way, as their British counterparts did, but they didn't.
I hope, based on their statement today, that if the US Government did decide to boycott Sochi (which I very much doubt will happen), the USOC will do the right thing, which they cravenly refused to do in 1980.
