  • ¶Monaco (Herculis) DL--m5000 Soi 12:51.34 WL

Here's some of the fastest non-Americans:

    E Soi
    I Koech
    A Choge
    T Longosiwa
    A Rop

    The top Americans:

    B Lagat
    G Rupp
    B True

One person I didn't list above is Lawi Lalang!!

Same question as on the W1500 thread.....
Will the AR go down....and who will get it?
Added question: How far under 13:00 WILL Lawi Lalang run??

While Lagat is the AR holder, and The Master.......I could easily see Rupp beating him to the first sub-12:50 by an American!!
As for Lalang, I believe his collegiate running doesn't come close to his true potential!!
I can easily see him being among the best in the WORLD.......soon.....VERY soon!!

    As for Ben True.........???

The athletes that are peaking for the WCs will be a little below their top; Lawi's time is now, so I think he will place well or at least lay it on the line and risk fading.

Alan, thanks for setting this up.

        Re: Monaco (Herculis) DL--M5000

There's a Flotrack video of 3 Flotrack guys (Don't know their names!) making predictions on the chances for an AR in the 5K, and on if Rupp will beat Lagat, and on what Lalang will do.

On the AR......none thought it will be broken, but one said Lagat will run 12:54.70....1.10 off his own mark.
On who will "win" (between Rupp and Lagat), 2 thought Lagat would.
All thought Lalang will bust it!!

Also, none thought Ben True will break 13.

I doubt anyone will break 13:00...but the race will be fascinating...Lagat will beat Rupp and the top Kenyon will win. True just ran a hard race at a PR 13:11.9...so he won't be rested enough for an optimal race.

I can't believe this race won't be under 13 minutes. Conditions are good in Monaco (race is 8:55pm) and the pacemakers should be capable of 7:44/45. I'll be surprised if the guys aren't right there. Ok the 4th km drops a bit but at 10:25 or below the race is set up nicely for a lot of guys to run under 13:00. I know there have been a few strange 5000s this year (Pre and Rome come to mind) but this is Monaco and the guys come here looking to run fast......

I don't know which one you're looking at, he's on the start list. He's here, relaxed and looking forward to the race....

These would no doubt be minor story lines at best for most readers here, but perhaps minor story lines are worth noting, too:

Yuki Sato (13:13.60, #3 Japanese a-t) just missed the Japanese NR (13:13.20) last week in Heusden. I would guess that he's going to make another attempt at his nation's NR in this race.

Collis Birmingham (13:09.57) is #2 a-t performer, #8 performance, behind several of Mottram's best. Mottram's NR not likely to be in any danger, but a good PB by Birmingham could move him up in terms of performances on the AUS a-t list.

Finally, I would really like to see Ben True break 13:10, which would also put him in the USA's a-t top 10 list. (He is #11 as of now; sub-13:10 would make him #9.)

Collins Birmingham in great shape, he's a very good runner who seems ready to challenge 13-mins. Mind you the poor guy didn't catch many breaks getting here, had not one but two planes malfunction on the ground in Barcelona, he made it into the hotel at 3:30am this morning. Seems pretty relaxed about it however, he's a toughs guy.....

                              http://www.bestsportgo.tv/20130718/vv-6 ... 61618.html

Video cut out on me for three laps, all of a sudden Rupp was 50 meters back and Lagat was nowhere in the pic. Saw the last four laps, Kenyans hammering, Rupp got to within about 25 meters, then they gapped him back.
