  • Jess Is Back!!!

She threw this evening in a small UK meeting setting a new Javelin PB of 48.33 and Long Jumping 6.22

Apparently with the recent Achilles injury she's now returned to jumping off her right foot.

I'm not saying she'll be ready for Moscow but this is certainly a promising start

That's promising. Thanks for the info.

      Re: Jess Is Back!!!

I actually read that the change in the Long Jump foot is nothing to do with the Achilles injury- her and Toni made the decision after London as she thought she may go further on her "natural" foot...

I still think it's early days and far too early to predict anything. The weekend's hurdles will be the tell tale sign. If she's under 13 seconds then I'd say she's favourite for Moscow without a doubt, again, but running is a very different pressure to the javelin (and to the long jump to an extent...), so I guess it's fingers crossed until then.

Especially as her strength is her speed and the massive points advantage she gets in hurdles and 200m.
        i deserve extra credit

To be honest I'm not certain I want to see her in Moscow. Up until last night I'd assumed she was out for the year. This last minute good form is great but completing a whole Heptathlon is a different matter.

This weekend will deffo make all the difference.

What I don't understand is if, as is intimated in everything that she's said, she wasn't able to train for 7 disciplines properly but could have concentrated on one, why this year wasn't the year she had a bash at the hurdles at a major event. It also suggests that maybe running is the issue here...

              Re: Jess Is Back!!!

She said that pushing off with her foot was causing her pain, so this is going to affect her running.

              However:

In the long jump she is (now) a right leg take off.
In the hurdles she is a left leg lead, so she is a right foot take off.
In the High jump she is a right foot take off.
In the SP, she stablizes and pushes off from her right foot.

So at least in these explosive events where stress is put on the take off leg or the one that takes the force, she isnt using her injured leg. I guess she hasn't been able to do much running overall though, and as mentioned her speed is her key. Maybe this is why she's set a JT PB; she's beeing doing more throw work. If she can throw and jump she will still be faster than most heptathletes (as long as she doesnt injure her leg anymore!)

She was on Sky Sports News saying that she's still not totally happy, but I suppose we'll see what kind of shape she is in at London this weekend....
