We need Barshim, Kynard, etc. to get up there with him (and Barshim's almost there). Once he has to jump 2.42 - 2.44 for the WIN, then we might see it. As long as he (thinks) he is head and shoulders above the competition I suspect he'll continue his unusual ways.
Based on Barshim's 2.44 miss and Bondarenko's 4.46 miss they both look capable of 2.44, certainly 2.43.

and push his NR up an inch ... and that would also give him the european record too, eclipsing the great Sjoberg. However after reviewing his 2.41 clearance I dont think he is quite ready for 2.43.
he should have been more interested in moving his NR to 243 than attempting a WR.
It would not have been possible to go to 2.43 as Barshim was still in the competition and the progression was set to got to 2.44 after 2.41. Yes, he could have jumped at 2.44 but apparently he was experiencing pain in his hip and in his legs and did not want to take more jumps than necessary.
Do anybody know why Barshim has not a complete approach run?
It is complete. It might seem short but he is moving very fast when he goes into his last 5, controlled steps. Going into the take-off he is very fast and that's what it is all about.

I've seen the tape, yep..
I think that Barshim's approach is a 4-step run with a long pre-run: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J7k2qjsq1U ... 7k2qjsq1UE
I don't think I've ever been more severely simultaneously beyond-pissed-off and overjoyed at the exact same time in my life, as I was while reading through this thread.
Overjoyed by what an absurd HJ competition apparently went down, and seeing the comments of how it unfolded, after the fact.
Beyond-furious by the fact that I didn't actually get to watch the damned thing, due to the U.S. not even giving enough of a quadrillionth of a fuck about track and field for it to be on fucking television.
nicest, i'm the least techno-able person but i watched it live on the "internets"...
i don't unerstand why bond. passed on 2.44... that was insane... since he was behind, if barshim had made it, he'd have to break the world record to win this...
