Do anybody know why Barshim has not a complete approach run?
It is complete. It might seem short but he is moving very fast when he goes into his last 5, controlled steps. Going into the take-off he is very fast and that's what it is all about.[/quote:2yhibeuh]
I've seen the tape, yep..
I think that Barshim's approach is a 4-step run with a long pre-run: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J7k2qjsq1U ... 7k2qjsq1UE[/quote:2yhibeuh]
Ha! Yer killing me. If a 'long pre-run' is a part of the approach, it's a long approach. As noted above, the only important thing (relatively speaking) is the speed of take-off, and Barshim's is great.

Yes, except that I have not been able to have access to a computer during the time of day of the events I wanted/want to watch, so, normally in the past this was never a problem, since I just DVR'd everything, and since I never knew the results before watching the recording, it was basically like watching it live a few hours earlier.

But I can't DVR these random internet livestreams to watch them when I get home.

And yes, I know they put it up on youtube, but every single time I've tried to do that, the idiots ended up putting the result in the title, or worse, random unrelated events above or below had spoilers in those too, so just trying to watch one random semifinal I'd usually have like 3 or 4 different events, including finals, spoiled. So it's just not the same thing at all.

So yea, I'm pretty damned pissed

So, given that I basically missed this world champs, and next year is a bye year, that's gonna mean a whopping THREE YEAR LONG gap between watching the London Olympics and the next champs I get to actually watch. ::clenches fists so tightly the capillaries burst::

Anyways, I don't want to derail this thing about that shit, I apologize for even bringing it up, but really just lost my temper when reading through this thread and seeing how incredible of an event it obviously was but not getting to see it myself. Gonna go do some breathing exercises now... sigh...

Anyways, for what it's worth, as angry as I am about missing it, I am delighted that the level of competition was as incredible as it apparently was, and am very happy for those of you who got to watch such a historic battle unfold. Pretty jaw dropping stuff with him passing over on the 2.38 and how many dudes were in the mix even when it got so high.

I salute these incredible high jump athletes for their efforts and performances. Good job guys!

Agree. That is the issue with live steaming as opposed to the NBC Olympics website where everything was archived or it being on tv when u can DVR it and watch it later. Since USN hasnt been added to my cable lineup yet (I bet it will be the day after the meet is over just to rub it to me) I have had to take off this Monday, tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning (8-11am) from work. I realize that not everyone can do that which totally sucks !

Letsrun is now offering race videos without results for the rest of Worlds. This will diminish my suffering; maybe yours too nicest p e.

hey nicest, I assume by your comments you're from the US. Even if NBC was televising the event during the week (your first complaint) it would have made no difference. For years now, NBC has made it a point NOT to cover field events, other than the winning mark and sometimes the best mark of the other medalists. They have not covered the "story" of a field event (the drama that unfolds from start to finish) since perhaps the '91 Lewis/Powell duel in the LJ. So, there would have been nothing to DVR anyway!

I know that makes you feel a whole lot better!

Just read an interview with Bondarenko. He said he was injured. Still jumped 2.41
He said that's why he was passing heights, couldn't afford to risk doing too many jumps due to the injury.

And probably a lot of hyperbole. You don't clear 2.41 if you are truly injured. Maybe he was a little banged up, but not "injured".

Not enough Marlow, he would have a quicker take-off if doing at least 6 steps (with pre-run)...

Bondarenko would have some back problems (a bit pain) but in my opinion that's not an injury

Wondering if that hip of his got tweaked from his twisted, arching technique  . Not wanting to start a whole discussion on this.

Back in the 80's and 90's it was Paklin, Sjoberg and Sotomayor pushing each other to great heights. I think we've now got a similar trio with Bondarenko, Barshim and Drouin.

I have a sneaky suspiscion that Soto's 2.43m (indoors) may be the first to go.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Im a litle tired to hear to some athletes to tell that they are injuried when they gets amazing things.
No, they are not injuried.
If you REALLY are injuried you can not compete or your performance is very bad compared with your best.

One thing are Little problems and another very different a REAL injury

Reminds me of Ukhov's most recent indoor attempts at 2.44 where he came darn close, having plenty of height but scraping with a calf. It was much closer than Bondarenko did here. Had he only given 2.42 or 2.43 a shot first he would have gotten it. Instead he is stuck with a PR of 2.40, grossly under-representing his ability in his peak year. Of course with Ukhov, even his peak year seemed to not match his potential. But that is another discussion to be had with a good bottle of vodka.

I wouldn't write Ukhov off yet. He is only 27 and has a fair few years left and has always been inconsistent.
