MIGUEL PATE BOUNDS TO LEAD OF MEN’S LONG JUMP RANKINGS

Monte Carlo - US long jumper Miguel Pate rose to the top of his Event Rankings in the latest release of the IAAF World Rankings.
The 23-year-old bronze medalist from the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham just more than two months ago won the Eugene Prefontaine Classic in Oregon over the weekend with a leap of 8.27 metres (1279 points in Performance Score). Pate gained six points in the Rankings, which was enough to overtake compatriot Dwight Phillips, the newly crowned World Indoor Champion. Phillips finished third in Oregon with a wind-aided 8.05m jump (1190 points in P.S.) but was unable to improve on his Rankings score.
Also improving on his credits at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon was Hussein Taher Al-Sabee. The Saudi-Arabian long jumper finished the meet in fourth place with a mark of 8.04 metres (1183 points in P.S.) and moved up a spot to 5th in the Event Ranking overtaking Jamaican James Beckford.
Tisha Waller of the US edged up two places to fourth in the women’s High Jump Event Rankings. Waller won the Prefontaine Classic with a clearance of 1.98metres (1285 points in P.S.) and now lies behind Russian youngster Marina Kuptsova who is in third place.
Reigning World and Olympic Champion Stacy Dragila also won in Oregon, but her result was not quite enough to improve on her Rankings score. Dragila vaulted 4.62m (1257 points in P.S.) to earn a vital mental victory over rival Svetlana Feofanova, yet at the end of the day Dragila lost points instead of gaining a few. The reason for this was her finish from the 2002 Prefontaine Classic, which she won with 4.72 metres. As Dragila was unable to repeat her performance from last year, and more than that, this year's Pre Classic was only a 'B' Category meet (IAAF Grand Prix), she lost eight points and remains in second place in the Event Rankings.

Monte Carlo – Le sauteur en longueur américain, Miguel Pate, a pris la tête du classement de sa discipline au dernier classement mondial de l’ IAAF.
Le jeune athlète (23 ans) médaillé de bronze aux Championnats du Monde en salle de Birmingham cet hiver, a remporté le ‘Prefontaine Classic’ à Eugene dans l’Oregon, ce week-end, avec un saut de 8,27m (1279 points-performance). Pate a progressé de six points au classement, ce qui lui a suffi pour devancer son compatriote, Dwight Phillips, le champion du monde en salle, en titre. Phillips, a fini troisième du concours d’Eugene avec un bond de 8,05m et un vent favorable (1190 points-performance) sans réussir pour autant à améliorer son classement.
Hussein Taher Al-Sabee s’est également surpassé lors du même meeting. Le Saoudien a terminé à la quatrième place du concours de saut en longueur avec un bond de 8,04m (1183 points-performance). Il progresse d’une place pour apparaître en 5èmeposition du classement de l’épreuve, devançant le Jamaïcain, James Beckford.
L’Américaine,Tisha Waller améliore aussi son classement pour figurer en quatrième position du classement du saut en hauteur féminin. Sa victoire au meeting d’Eugene avec un saut de 1,98m (1285 points-performance.) lui a octroyé un avantage de deux places. Waller talonne la toute jeune Russe, Marina Kuptsova (3ème).
La championne du monde en titre et championne olympique, Stacy Dragila, a remporté le concours de saut à la perche de l’Oregon mais son succès n’a pas été suffisant pour améliorer son score au classement. Dragila a sauté 4,62m (1257 points-performance), remportant une victoire sur sa rivale, Svetlana Feofanova, tout à fait positive pour le moral mais pourtant, Dragila a perdu des points au lieu d’en gagner. La raison en est que l’année dernière, elle avait déjà remporté ce meeting d’Eugene mais avec une meilleure performance (4,72m). Qui plus est, cette année, le meeting Prefontaine Classic (Grand Prix IAAF) est passé en catégorie B. En conséquence, Stacy Dragila n’ayant pas réussi à égaler son résultat de 2002, abandonne huit points mais conserve sa seconde place au classement de l’épreuve.
