  • So Bolt is Retiring

In 2016 according to the front page story. Thought that could be a worthy discussion since Bolt usually sparks conversation (oh except in Moscow this past August). Taking the MJ approach of trying to go out on top.

Anyone think its will hold true as far into the future it is? (even with all the factors like him just not winning in Rio...)

    Re: So Bolt is Retiring

Bolt has been saying this for a while now. This article/news is two years late.
No guarantees in this sport but if he remains healthy and close to 2012 shape or better I can see him taking 1 or possibly 2 Golds home In Rio.

Maybe the London authorities can dangle some carrots to inveigle him to run at the World Champs in 2017....
        8-)
That said, it of course depends on how well he does at Rio in 2016.
My heart is still in the Caribbean....

          Re: So Bolt is Retiring

A motivated Bolt is/will be unbeatable. I think he was just going thru the motions this year and still went triple gold. I'll go out on a limb and say he will look less and less Boltian in 14 and 15, but then will win it all again in 16. The prospect of 3 more years of hard work is daunting, but his desire to put away the GOAT trophy for a long time will sustain him!

I wonder where he would currently rank against the greats in all sports< say Ali, Pele, Bradman, Federer, Jordan etc.

Bradman? Had to google him. Given the billions who have never played cricket, gonna have to put him last!

You do know that there are probably more cricket fans in the world today than tennis fans? And Bradman's superiority over everyone who ever played his sport is only surpassed by Babe Ruth's. So I think, given dominance and amount of people who play/follow the sport, Babe Ruth should be at the head of your list.

Personally, I was hoping he would stick around until the WC in 2017 as he has sometimes hinted at, but this news isn't entirely surprising. And I still don't understand why people keep doubting his ability to win championships.

While I'm not as dismissive of baseball as others, I still believe Cricket has a more global following than Baseball. China, India and Pakistan alone (to say nothing of the other cricket-living countries)should confirm this.

Cricket is only known in India and in old brittish colonies.
Baseball out of USA and few more is not very very popular.
                              In Europe really few...

Boxing, european football(soccer) or track and field i think that yes, are known in all world.
