  • WADA - No current issues with Jamaica

Now, Portia Simpson-Miller, the prime minister of the Caribbean country, has contacted Wada and provided reassurances to the agency's director general David Howman.

Howman said there are "no current issues" with Jamaica but Wada will visit the country and maintain checks.

    Thank you WADA.

That was the point missed with the whole Ann Shirley dust-up; what she was talking about took place two Financial Years ago. Since it received better funding for 2012-2013FY and 2013-2014FY JADCO had markedly improved on their testing levels. Ann Shirley knew this but it didn't matter to her because she was a woman scorned.

So, with the known increase in tests it follows that WADA has no current issues.

Re: WADA - No current issues with Jamaica

"We have had several responses from Jamaica including a personal response from the prime minister. She is very interested in anti-doping issues and it shows their commitment to deal with this, and we will visit again for further discussions. There have been some gaps over the years in what Jamaica has done and we would not like to see these gaps occur again, but we have no current issues with them."

This is the issue...nobody's saying JADCo is perfect, but the Shirley article was deliberately cherry-picking, and the US/UK media reaction was way over the top, grossly inaccurate, and extremely misleading.

Needless to say, this article is only in the Guardian so far...the other newspapers and broadcast media in the UK have not reported this. I can't say I'm surprised...remember that calypso about "the foreign press"?

Very nice to know that even the prime minister of Jamaica has been involve with this issue. This is an indication that there minister is very concerned with his nation.

Good to see that after a number of world records and medals they have decided to increase their testing a little bit, maybe a couple times a year per medaling athlete. A real statement for their commitment.
