CU's men's team 2nd to Northern Arizona, maybe a little bit of an off day. Hopefully they'll be ready next weekend. Ok St's top 5 were within 6 seconds of each other, maybe they're rounding into form, with more in the tank.

Re: NCAA XC Regionals
Kennedy Kithuka won easily by 16 seconds over Anthony Rotich. Very smooth running (for both). In talking to the UTEP coach (Rotich) before race (a fairly good runner in his own right) - he indicated that Rotich had come down with strep throat and that he wasn't sure how he would do. Both of them had gapped 'the pack' by 4 miles.
Jared Ward of fun run and disqualification fame got 4th - 6 seconds behind Rothich and 4 tenths behind Futsum Zienasellassie both at the front of a flurry of fast finishers. 20th place was just under 30:00 and then guys came in about a second apart through 60th place.
Weather was cold (I'm guessin low 40s maybe high 30s) with some percip just prior to the race little bit ... very little bit of snow with light light rain, flat course on grass (golf course) . NCAAs should be competitive, if this is any predictor
Northern Az - 3-9-10-11-28.
Colorad 5-7-15-16-26-27
NorthAz 61

Re: NCAA XC Regionals
Big Ten meet almost certainly had the closest race at the top - five points separating the top four teams. Indiana rested their Number 2 guy, and ran a hard-workout type of race. Wisconsin's number 1 ran 8km with one shoe, and finished third on the team, otherwise they would have won. All four teams are in.

Wisconsin 73
Notre Dame 74

Re: NCAA XC Regionals
I don't know how a team could have taken it easy in Mountain West race. After 2nd place they were coming in very fast ... a little bit iffy to be able to do that IMO. NAUs 5th guy @ 30:08, Col 5th guy @ 30:07, New Mex 5th @ 30:07, BYU 5th @ 30:18, Air Force 5th @ 30:21, Col St 5th @30:35.
Col did have their 6th @ 30:08 - didn't look like anyone from 3rd back to ??? were cruisin/easing in and there wasn't anyone lookin back. It was a pretty intense race. Maybe they'e good at knowin where they are - but that pack of about 30-40 or so was pretty impressive and the last mile didn't break it up - . The first 4 teams - especially the first 3 were very very impressive. I will be most interested how the champ race goes.

Re: NCAA XC Regionals
When I said "didn't kill themselves," I didn't mean that they took it easy.
From the results, it looked to me that the top three teams were all in a big pack. They were probably looking at each other and assessing the situation. They all had at least 5 runners there who were running within themselves. The 5th runner from the top 3 teams finished within a second of each other. All three teams easily qualified for nationals. That is how a qualifying race should be run.

Re: NCAA XC Regionals
The men's Mountain Regional is the strongest (with 6 qualifiers), and the top 4 teams know going in that they have enough head-to-head wins, at previous meets, to get in to Nationals.
Colorado was very impressive on the women's side, and look to finish way ahead of their ranking at NCAA.
Eastern Kentucky men had a very low point total at SE Region.

Erin Finn proving the rankings wrong from last year.
With her Big Ten win and 2nd at Regionals is there any doubt she was the best X-C runner last year in High School? If she doesn't get sick before Foot locker regionals she would have won Foot Locker Nationals.

How intense was this finish with 4 different pairs of runners finishing in the same second on teams within 1 , 2 or 3 points. Talking about missing or making a free throw with no time on the clock. 8-) and it's like 5 guys have to shoot FT at the end not just one.
