  • One for heptathlon fans - Roleder 4187

German sprint hurdler Cindy Roleder (12.91 PB) is making a move to the heptathlon next season.

In the German Police Championships in Lubeck this September she ran the 100m in 11.72 and longjumped 6.17. She also has a 200m PB from 2009 of 24.86.

She approached Wolfgang Kuehne, who coaches Michael Schrader and Rico Freimuth and he has apparently been watching her HJ and SP training to get an idea of her ability and calculate points and potential.

She last did a heptathlon back in 2006 when she was 17, coming second in the German U18 championships with 5052. At a meeeting in 2004 aged 15 she impressed in the ball throwing event, reaching 50m, so has potential in the throws I guess. She is 1.78 tall (5'10) and 68kg (just under 11 st) so is the perfect build for a heptathlete.

Her first competition will be Jan 4th next year in the Chemnitz pentathlon, which will be a good stepping stone for her. (She's done 7.9 over 60mh) and her initial aim for the summer is to get over 6000 points.

My attempts at kgs is to double it and then add another 10%. 68 requires 'carrying' so it becomes 70. Doubled is 140, drop the end digit and add this in = 154. Now take off the 2(x2) extra I had added in, and I get 150! Close enough for gummint work!

The article actually said her long-term goal is 6000 points, but realistically, she has to have more points in the back of her mind because 6000 won't get her anywhere.
Now if they only could convince Claudine Vita to try the hep.

        Re: One for heptathlon fans

I agree if she is serious she is realistically looking for more than 6000. Germany probably has the greatest depth in this event, so she knows if she wants to get to any championships she is looking for at least 6000 points.

The Chemnitz pentathlon will be good to see how she is doing. Her 60mh and LJ should be fine. I'm interested to see how she does in the HJ. Her LJ and hurdling suggests she could be ok but it's all about technique. I have no idea how she will do in the SP but she obviously has/had a strong arm from that ball throw result years ago, but that action is similar to the Javelin, rather than the SP, although the implement is not like the JT and more like the Shot!

I agree re Claudine. She has great throwing ability and is pretty fast. There are a few German women who could/can be good at the heptatlon. I always thought Kirsten Bolm should have done one, as she was a good longjumper too and medalled at world junior level in that event. Her PB was 6.55i for that and she has run 11.68 over 100m, 24.05 200 indoors, 1.81 HJ and of course her 12.59 100mh. Then someone like Melanie Bauschke with her HJ/LJ 1.9/6.8 ability, and her decent hurdles (13.75) and sprint ability. Youngster Alexandra Burghardt (11.54 for 100m, 13.41 for 100mh, 5.93 LJi)......I guess Germany has a good squad of multieventers so to move from a specialist event to the heptathlon takes a lot of courage and ability.

Well, Roleder won her first outing in the senior pentathlon with 4105. Nothing outstanding, but a very good stepping stone and she had some solid marks:

          60mh - 8.24
          HJ - 1.61
          SP - 11.15
          LJ - 6.06
          800 - 2:21.00

Obviously, as expected, her SP and HJ are pretty weak, so it will be interesting to see how she progresses in those events. If she could have jumped 1.71 (yes, 10cm is a big difference but with her speed/jump ability she should be going higher) that would have been an extra 120 points right there. She finished way ahead of her opposition, so with more refinement and competition she cna go over 4300 I'm sure.

Well, since the ratio is 2.20462, doubling and adding 10% is off by only 0.21%, as good as most slide rule calculations (I still have mine in my desk in the case my mom made for me 50 years ago).

Today Roleder improved to 4187. Her marks:

              60mh - 8.17
              HJ - 1.60
              SP - 11.49
              LJ - 6.32
              800 - 2:22.96

Her SBs take her to 4224. She was beaten by the Biesenbachs (4230 and 4226) but again, she really needs at least another 10cm in the HJ to be competitive outdoors. I wonder how her JT will be though.

There was a soccer player named Roleder a few years back. I wonder if they are related.

Vita tossed 62.31 DT and 16.62 SP in 2015,while Roleder scored 5948p+12.92s 100mH already and improved her speed, throws, and HJ!
