She also set another 2 PBs at the same meet; 8.40 for 60mh and 7.51 for 60m. Her busy weekend was completed with a 6.34 in the LJ. She's started off in great form. She has to be over 6500 this summer surely?

Re: 2014 result of multi-event athletes

Claudia Rath has been invited to the Wold Indoors (she has accepted) based on her 2013 outdoor score. She was 6th ranked outdoors last year, so a number of women have declined their invitation (Schippers for definite, presumably Chernova after her injury too)

        Sopot Entry Standard
The winner of the 2013 Combined Events Challenge
The three best athletes from the 2013 Outdoor Lists (as at 31 December 2013), limited to a maximum of one per country
The three best athletes from the 2014 Indoor Lists (as at 17 February 2014)
One athlete which may be invited at the discretion of the IAAF

As an aside for you, nianchengyu, Sara Gambetta was interviewed last week and she was saying he she feels so much better now she's moved to the SP, both physically and mentally. She was struggling with keeping her weight down for the multievents, as well as with niggles and aches. She's hoping for 17m this season.

Karolina Tymi?ska 14.30 in SP yesterday in Spa?a.

Tymi?ska may get the wild card for Sopot; originally the IAAF suggested it would go to Jess Ennis, but now that she's out, a representative of the host country could be the next best choice.

Yes, good point Powell. And good motivation for Tyminska. At least there's no JT indoors, although she still has to do the HJ :P
But seriously, that's a good SP opener and with home support she is going to be a threat for a medal (if she can go high 1.7s!)

Tymi?ska is planning to do the pentathlon in Tallinn on 7 Feb. From what I understand, the wild card will have been granted by then, so she will either go all out to qualify for Sopot if she doesn't get it or treat it more like practice if she does.

Melnychenko is not planning to contest a pentathlon before Sopot, but she does plan to be there. She will compete in 60H and LJ at the Ukrainian club/team champs in Zaporizhzhya at the end of this month and LJ at the Russian winter on 2 Feb. I forget if she plans to compete at the NC in mid-late Feb.

Kira Biesenbach opens with =PBs or near PBs:

                    60mh - 8.61 (PB is 8.59)
                    HJ - 1.70 PB
                    LJ - 6.16 = PB
                    SP - 13.05 (13.34 PB)

Re: 2014 result of multi-event athletes

Cato had an afternoon 'jumping' (literally and figuratively) between the PV (made 515, just missed 530) and the HJ, where is set a new PR of 219 (982 pts) (and missed the school record 223 or 224).

If he can hit 540, 220, 7.80h, 7.00, 7.90m, he will be about 5000* points, plus the SP (13.12 PR) and 1000 (2:45); he has a chance to be up in the 6200++ range, although that is very optimistic. But, remember, he just did 219 on a repaired achilles in his first week back in competition since the injury.

Latham [11th at NCAAs in 2013] did 8.40 for the hurdles, 0.06 off of her PR. as well as 6.00m (and 5.93, 5.91) LJ [1cm short of PR].

According to all-athletics his previous PB is only 2.12 so this is a huge PB.
With 7.85, 2.19 and 5.30 Cato has a chance to become the best ever jumper in the decathlon (current best is by Pappas 7.96, 2.17, 5.20). Given Lasaz slow start of the season I think that Cato is the favorite for the NCAA title and should score 62xx.

Well, his compatriot threw 22.00m in the SP last indoor and his new teammate hit 74 feet in the weight three or four times yesterday, so the new throws coach will probably make progress with him. this year. I think he can hit 540, 550 is a bit of a stretch. He did attempt 220 last week after clearing 2.11 on his first day of competition coming back from the achilles injury.
