A week after the Euro Combined Cup, Anna Blank set a LJ PB of 6.27 at the Nicheukhin Memorial in Russia. This represents a significant improvement this season; her pre 2014 best was 6.10 from 2011 and she has improved to 6.13 in Adler and now this 6.27. The difference between 6.10 and 6.27 is 54 pts, so she should be looking to reach 6100 in Zurich if all goes well, especially as Torun was awful weather.

She now has a decent day 2 (6.27, 48+ and 2:10) but just needs to sort out that horrible 100mh and 200m.

    It was raining for much of the meeting and there were thunderstorms during the women's 800m, so that outs the performances in some context. Some other interesting snippets from that meeting;

Nana Djimou scored 6212 in second place (13.59/ 1.75/ 14.65/ 24.69/ 5.94/ 47.31/ 2:16.80) so is probably a bit too far behind in form to retain her European title.

Tyminska DNF the 200 and withdrew

Russia, as I mentioned earlier, are still not performing well in the multis on the women's side, despite the combined overall victory. The men are doing well, and got 4th, 5th, 6th and 11th on here, to illustrate depth, although top man Sviridov didn't break 8000 and Lukyanenko (world indoor bronze in Istanbul 2012 and 8177 in Moscow) scored just 7539 in 11th.
Their top woman was Anna Blank who came 5th, and she scored 5990 here so wasn't far off her PB in fairness. Butvina was 6th with 5887 then Poltavets was next down in 15th with 5531.

Unless Savitskaya returns to some kind of form and the selectors go with her 2013 mark (unlikely) it seems Blank and Butvina will represent Russia in Zurich and as mentioned earlier, will struggle to make the top 12. :?

BROERSEN scored 5617p after 6 events/13,57/-0.2 – 1,87 – 13,89 – 25,09/-1.6-6.32-51.98, she needs 2.12.45s or better to break schippers 6545p NR,if not the huge headwind, she will perform better.

KJT showed her 22.89s is not a fluke, she ran 11.35s/2.3,11.30s/3.5 in Beford, and she did 13.41s/-2.0 pb in 100mH.As for Jessica Zenlika ,enhancing her form by running 23.47s in 200m,13.22s in huge headwind to show her determation to win a medal in Glagow CG.

KJT and Morgan Lake both below-par in HJ with 1.86m and 1.82m,but in LJ both set great marks with 6.81m and 6,32m PB.

    Re: 2014 result of multi-event athletes-15y hep Shukh 49.40

Thanks TimRoy, I didn't know. I guess it's the best year to take off with no World or Olympics. This makes things even more interesting for me now; Ennis, Chernova and Oeser, 3 of the most consistent heptathletes since 2008, all off for a baby break. All 3 missed 2013 with injury too (well, Chernova had a 'half' season). It's going to be really interesting to see if they can come back at their best, at the top, with this new wave of great talent we have in the event. 2013 and 2014 have certainly seen a changing of the guard. By Beijing and Rio it looks like we'll be seeing very different names on the podium compared to London, Daegu, Berlin.

Without Chernova Russia seems to have gone back to those lean few years she had in the mid 00s. It looked like Savitskaya or Bolshova might be the next big thing but both have flattered to deceive thus far. Plenty of time for them to come back, but this season it looks like Russia will be lucky to get a woman in the top 12 in Zurich.

On Anna Blank, who scored 6067, her previous PB was 5813 from 3 years ago. She's 24 now, but last season she only scored 5273 and in 2012 5523, so perhaps she was injured. Her 2014 results are below.

    Annual Bests
    Event Result Wind Venue Date
    200m 25.43 +1.0 Adler (RUS) 15.05.2014
    800m 2:11.63 Adler (RUS) 16.05.2014
    100mH 14.41 +0.6 Adler (RUS) 15.05.2014
High Jump 1.77 Adler (RUS) 15.05.2014
    Long Jump 6.13 0.0 Adler (RUS) 16.05.2014
Shot Put 12.66 Adler (RUS) 15.05.2014
Javelin Throw 48.00 Adler (RUS) 16.05.2014
    Heptathlon 6067 Adler (RUS) 16.05.2014

I believe I read on this site in another thread that Chernova is taking the year off with a baby on the way.

    Re: 2014 result of multi-event athletes-15y hep Shukh 49.40

The Russian multievent season kicked off a few weeks ago in Adler, and we had the Russian Combined Events Championships in Cheboksary on 10th June.

The Russian men are performing pretty well and are in form; Sviridov won in Cheboksary with 8193. In the rankings behind him Sarantsev and Grigoryev, new names to most, did 8123 and 8112 in Adler. 3 men over 8100 is very healthy.

However, on the womens side they aren't doing too great at all. Does anyone have any news on Chernova? She doesnt look to have competed at all this year. With Bogdanova and Kurban retired, there really is a gap. Butvina won in Cheboksary with 6068. Anna Blank is next ranked with 6067 from Adler, then we have Lyuboc Tkach next with 5903. Savitskaya competed in Cheboksary but DNS the 800. However, she is below form, having the following results:
    14.50, 1.77, 12.53, 26.50, 6.13, 44.13.
Had she run 2:20 she'd have scored 5761, 2:16 would have been 5816 and 2:12 would have been 5873.
Bolshova hasnt competed this season yet and didnt complete a heptathlon in 2013 so has no qualifier for the Europeans either (Savitskaya has a 6210 from last year).

Erica Bougard is one of three athletes (along with Spenner and Reaser) that are already entered to USATF in the Heptathlon. I wonder whether Williams will enter as she has both the NCAA and WJC this year.
