Kenyan tests positive for banned drug

A Kenyan female athlete has tested positive for using the banned blood-boosting performance enhancing drug EPO (erythropoietin), the Nation established yesterday. 

Blood sample from Pamela Chepchumba, winner of the 2001 Belgian Heusden International meet at 5,000 metres, showed traces of EPO, a form of drug injected directly into the blood stream which increases red blood cells thereby improving an athlete's stamina and performance in competition.

Chepchumba tested positive during the world cross country championships in Lausanne, Switzerland on March 29, Athletics Kenya confirmed yesterday...

Why the long wait between tests? To give her a chance to be clean? I've heard stories/rumors of the IAAF looking the other way when it comes to E. Africans (due to their 'economic situation'), but this takes the cake.

I'm shockec, shocked to hear of a Kenyan using an injectable substance! We've been told for years that they're all deathly afraid of needles and such an action would be impossible.

regardless of wether it is kenya, usa, china or any other country or business dotors, lawyers, priests, whatever unfortunately there are people who do the wrong thing, what really hurts track and field a sport, where there are records kept, is even if a person breaks a record cleanly a lot of people will wonder is that person juiced.

Protocol allows for this. These samples are preserved to allow for testing at a later date. Sample degradation is not an issue. Testing protocol & skill of the tester(s) is more an issue than the time involved between tests. Be assured that the B sample was taken from the same original as the A sample.

hey i think that anyone who needs chemicals or enhacers to run is not an athlete. I run for my h.s. team and i would never use any of these types of substances. it disgusts me!
