Re: coach barnet
SATCH , I no longer compete as an athlete. I am the voice of reason , and find the North American society has the ability to keep lowering the the standards of fitness and health . When I can still run a 31 minute 10k with out training , and I witness people in road races who are happy with 40 minute 10k runs it makes me sick . Any healthy adult ( not cripples or mentally challeged) should be able to jog a 10k in less than 37 minutes. Those who can't, have pages of built in excuses , and can justify why they are lazy , or fat , or slow.

Coach - what a slacker you are - I am 53, my only workout is 12 sit-ups before bed each night, and even I can break 30 easily. Pack it up, bro, you're not fit material for THIS board.

<40 minute 10k runs it makes me sick>
A vast majority of young people in shape who just don't have running talent are incapable of breaking 40 min. for 10K. I couldn't, hard as I tried. Running 1K in 3:20 is considered a good time in many fitness tests (it was when I was in a boot camp in Czechoslovak military). That translates to 32 min. 10K if one can run his full speed 10X. The times you are talking about are competetive level, not a healthy non-competing population. As usually, you are full of it."A beautiful theory killed by an ugly fact."

Just a nitpick, but a 3:20 km is 200 seconds. 10x = 2000 seconds = 33:20, not 32:00. I doubt the good coach could hit any of those times.
"As usually, you are full of it."
Can't disagree with that, though.

When somebody keeps talking nonsense, you respond before counting. Thanks for the correction :-)"A beautiful theory killed by an ugly fact."

If you can't calculate the pace per klm in a 10k , you will never achieve the desired time. Expecting 90 seconds per quarter mile (37 minutes) and change is NOT very good .
