    Re: WR - 26:20 - BEKELE!

What's even more amazing is that the pacemaking was bad. Martin Keino started out great, hit 2000 in 5:16, but then slowed. Dagne took over, but dropped out before 4000m, and Bekele was 6 seconds off pace and alone! Times: 4000 10:37, 5000 13:14.42, 6000 15:50.94, 7000 18:29.33, 8000 21:08.94, 9000 23:48.35. Last 1000 2:31.97, penultimate lap 62.19. Bekele had to lap some runners on the outside, and at about 7000 had to almost squeeze between two, one giving him the inside, the other not. The one who stayed on the inside was Kamathi. You should have seen his face as Bekele blew by!

Were there any other sub-27s, or close, in the race?

2nd place was 26.53 by another ethiopian, that gives ethiopia 4 under 27 for 10k this year.

13.14-13.06 -- This must be the "best" negative-split race all-time (only because of the WR attached to it... Bekele and Geb ran faster at the WCs last summer).

Both faster than the best American this year.

3 Hassan Abdullah Ahmad QAT 27:15.03

Is this guy another Kenyan running for Quatar? I don't seem to remember this name from last year. If yes, what was his original name?

wow: assuming even splits, he was more than half a lap ahead of 2nd and almost lapped 3rd. (and the 2nd and 3rd times weren't exactly slow)

oops, my bad. I saw the long Geb name and assummed.... Pretty massive PR for the "wrong" Geb! I have 27:43.12 from '02, but he may have a better previously this year. He was not at Hengelo.
