Apparently all-athletics has followed the lead of Tilastopaja and other Finnish sites when it comes to spelling Abdelrahman's name
I hope we see a less underwhelming competition than in Eugene. I see Abdelrahman's ankle as the main storyline here - will he show up in 89+ form or 75 form?
Of the rest, Veselý is probably in the best shape (if I had to put a javelin formchart right now, he'd be #1) but even he hasn't shown much this year yet. Among the Finns, Mannio and Pitkämäki are likely tops right now. Mannio is very consistent but Pitkämäki has more upside. Ruuskanen is 0-1 against Mannio and 0-2 against Pitkämäki so far this year, I hope he beats one of the other Finns here but I doubt it.
Yego (who has the same coach as Abdelrahman) looked good in Shanghai but hasn't shown much elsewhere. He seems to throw better the bigger the meet is, though, so my guess would be he'll at least beat his non-Shanghai SB of 80.02.
Amb has also shown zip outside Shanghai but unfortunately I think he'll beat at least one of the Finns. He's usually pretty consistent and though he had his worst competition since 2012 in Eugene I'd guess he'll be back to normal here, unless there's an injury I don't know about.
Thorkildsen has been talking big as usual but I'll wait for him to start throwing big again until I predict him success, though with no one in top shape even a mediocre (for him) result like 81-82 could place him surprisingly high. Tarabin has been somewhat disappointing so far this year but he's also very consistent; while his SB is "only" 82.66, he's thrown 80+ in every meet so far and surely will here as well.
There was a time I thought Röhler would be the next top German, but he hasn't regained his shape from early 2013 yet. Even with the only thrower in this field with a SB of 85+ having injury woes I don't see him fighting for the top spots, and the same goes for Zaytsev. Now of course they'll show me wrong and win the whole thing
