  • No Dream Mile?

I just saw the schedule for Oslo's Bislett Games at http://www.bislettgames.com/media/Time_ ... _1505.html

I don't see the "Dream Mile" listed. Augh! Why not? Is it possible they are not having it this year?

Dammit, this will be my first ever Euro meet -- I'll be mighty pissed if there is no Dream Mile.

The mile/1500 isn't Golden League this year. Yet another reason why the Golden League, IMHO, is a bad idea. It doesn't give meets like Bislett, which traditionally has a very strong distance line-up, the freedom to arrange their own events.

That's idiotic! I didn't realize the GL completely controlled the meet. Bislett ought to be allowed to hold all the GL events and then add on whatever else they see fit. The Dream Mile has always been the showcase event in Oslo.

You misunderstand; they're free to add any event they wish, including the backwards triple jump for crosseyed midgets, but the operative word there is FREE, which is what the world's top milers won't run for.

And if Oslo (no longer one of the obscenely big-money meets on the circuit) can't afford to add another high-priced field they won't.

Becuase of the attention the U.S. media (partic. ABC-TV forall those years) has given it, the Dream Mile enjoys far greater status here than it does at Bislett.

But fear not, it's still going to be one of the great meet-going experiences of your life.

Aw hell, couldn't they get one of the corporate sponsors to pony up for some race fees? Damn shame. I still have that mad Cram-Aouita finish etched into my brain. Great race to watch, and great T&FN cover. A defining moment in forging my love for running as a high schooler.
