Re: Rip Hamilton running a 5 minute mile?
Commentators on ESPN are always talking about how fit he is, they say he has been running under 5min since high school, and that he was unbeaten at the distance in high school. He is obviously very fit and has been quoted saying "If I'm tired whoever's marking me is exhausted"

Re: Rip Hamilton running a 5 minute mile?
"I see no reason that a fit, not huge, athlete, couldn't run a 5 min mile. And Rip certainly fits that category."
Agreed. There were non-track athletes in my high school who could nearly break five minutes. I certainly think an NBA player with his type of build and in great shape (as he clearly is) could break five minutes.

Re: Rip Hamilton running a 5 minute mile?
hamilton went to coatesville, which is in the philly suburbs.
coatesville is a very decent track school, so I'd find it very possible he was a sub 5 miler, but basketball season would have killed any chance for him to run outdoors.
Interestingly, hamilton and kobe played in the same league, the central league.
as to sub 5's the 76'ers had a guard, who was a 1st round pick who ran around 5 flat in 1984. The guy went on to be an nba ref....name escapes me now.
