Talk is cheap. Anyone can SAY they are going for a WR. That said, at least he has the credentials to say it with a straight face.

What a superb finish after a suicidal first lap!

3:27.64 as Kiplagat blasts past the fading Kiprop.

Best ever marks for places 4-10. Numbers 5-7 were only a few weeks old (Doha 2014).

Just shows that the Americans medals were courtesy of a slow pace. My guess is both are topped out at about 3.30.0

??!! That makes no sense. The OG/WC are races with rounds, not rabbited one-offs (which I love!)

Man, I'm really glad someone was able to find a cynical angle to the day!

You don't think the Kenyans can run a race in the finals of the Championships with a fast last 6-800, a la Guerrouj. The Americans have never done well in a fast last half race under 3.33.00.

It doesn't matter what we THINK they can do in a championships race; it matters what they did do.

Nothing cynical about facts. Their medals were fantastic but if you run slow championship finals you get burned by kickers. M and C are kickers, not strength runners. If 2016 is run in 3.33-3.35, they'll be in the hunt, if it's under 3.31 they probably won't be.
