Well, 30m out of 20,000 is the same average as 0.30 meters out of 200m. That is not much different than the differential in the individual lanes in the indoor 200. Either allow this course or disallow such banking indoors. (Well, I guess that the NCAA has the 200 but the IAAF dropped if for the WIC, right?)

Edna Kiplagat, Mary Keitany and Tirunesh Dibaba are entered in the Great North Run half-marathon September 7. Mo Farah and Stephen Kiprotich headline the men's race. Too bad this course is not "legal" (downhill 30.5m). Ten of the top 30 performances through last year have been set on this course, Tokyo (33m) or Lisboa (69m). (The Lisboa course has been modified to be legal, and yielded Zersenay Tadese's WR of 58:23, an awesome performance.) Keitany had the recognized world record, 65:50, set in Ra's Al Khaymah (UAE), until Florence Kiplagat ran 65:12 in Barcelona this past February. Yet another Kiplagat, the Netherlands' Lornah, holds the European record.

According to the report in AI #30, Queen Harrison's fall at the 9th hurdle resulted in a broken arm! I don't see anything specific about a broken arm on her Twitter (goQueengo), but she does say, "let the healing and offseason begin".

Geoffrey Mutai and Priscah Jeptoo will defend their NY marathon titles November 2.
