Janelle Wright of Kansas State is having a terrible meet. She had a poor result in the shot and a gawdawful result in the javelin, and so the #2 seed goes down in flames. It's still possible that she could finish in the top 4, but I honestly thought I'd see her best result of the year in the NCAA's.

Hep is over, and Jacquelyn Johnson of Arizona State won the title by a narrow 22 points over Fountain. Wright of Kansas State, the #2 seasonal performer, finished a disappointing 8th.

I suppose she could be injured, but if she isn't she really packed it in. Wright was easily leading the Big 12 heptathlon when she fouled on all three javelin attempts in the next to last event.
