  • 2015 HS Top Returners

Just the tip of the iceberg!
There's lots more depth in lots of events to promise a HUGE year for HS T&F in 2015, both indoors and outdoors!
Looks like my blog will be kept VERY busy these next few months!!

You DO know that NO one in the Southeastern USA calls it that, yes?
I realize that Wazoo was an affectation for WSU, but I find Flazoo bordering on offensive, since we have delved into personal perceptions before.

Well, his times are not quite up with those of the top high school distance runners, but lately Olin Hacker (West High, Madison, WI) has been ringing up some pretty good runner-up marks. First, NxN, then Footlocker behind Fisher, then the international meet at Edinburgh he was third behind Cripa (also winner of the Euro Junior Championship race) and teammate (OSU frosh) Cerake Geberkidane.

Girl's RW battle between Meaghan Podlaski and Katharine Newhoff is getting interesting. They should face off for the 1st time this season at Millrose, then come back for NYS Champs and USATF Indoors. Podlaski is #12 AT at 1500 & just posted the #3 AT 3000 today. Newhoff is #16 AT 1500 & #19 AT 3000, plus coming off her World Jrs appearance last summer.

Boy's RW is pretty much all Cameron Haught, who broke Trevor Barron's Soph record at 3000 to become #7 AT.

She's quick, but not quite that quick. I think you mean 7.40.

I would now pick Sydney McLaughlin to make the 2016 Olympic team, if she stays healthy. Not as a long shot, but as one of my picks if I am predicting now. Although some HS stars fade away after HS, she will still be in HS and won't have time to fade away.

...and outdoors is already here... add to previous post...

                          - Kaitlyn Merritt, CA (2014: 13-9 PV, and a 'dual meet' jump of 14-0.75) has a few outdoor jumps already this year, going 13-6 today in a dual meet (yes, against girls from El Toro). She'll be attending Stanford next year.

                          - Matt Katnik, CA goes 68-9 SP in a recent outdoor meet (68-10 was the nation's 2014 outdoor HSL, and 2015 indoor HSL = 67-4), so a good start for Matt. (Add: a 3+ foot improvement over his 2014 PR). He'll be going to USC.

Will she be eligible (age-wise) ?

World Youth Champs (ages 16-17) only four months away. I realize some of these folks may not participate in Cali, Colombia, regardless, the overall talent in some events is just ridiculous. For example:

                              Girls 200: K. Whitney 22.49, C. Hill 23.12, L. Williams 23.39i... Want a a hypothetical 4x200 relay, add K. Roberts 23.47 or even S. McLaughlin 13.34H/37.49i/53.72i.

                              Boy's 400: J. Lyles 46.23, K. Reed 46.45, Q. Hall 46.71
Correction: HS junior Noah Lyles (20.71) will be too old for this year's WYCs.

Prep outdoor season here we come!...

For a great look at USA's boy's and girl's WYC prospects, please take a look at these fantastic reports by Mike Kennedy...
