Seeing as this little gem was hidden away in the Bislett thread (and had so few comments), Elvan deserves her moment of glory.
She ran a great race last night and, much like Kenny's WR, she took it on pretty much almost by herself (mainly in the second half). Many women (Dibaba, Defar, Tulu, Wami, Adere, Radcliffe, etc...) have been capable of breaking this WR in the past, but none have quite got there. But finally, Abeylegesse has made it a much more respectable WR (both based on time and considering who she took the record from).
It's time for the record to be taken into the low 14:20's.... can Elvan do it?! Also, would anyone bet against her for winning the Olympics? She's hinted towards doubling up (after her recent 3:58 1500m run), but judging by the article on the iaaf.org site, she is "100% sure" that she'll be the OG champ.
