  • Relay Race Lost

Hi - I'm looking for the specifics on when the US (men or women) have lost the 4 x100 due to a teamwork issue (flubbed baton toss, dropped baton). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    thanks
    P

      Olympics:
U.S. men were DQed for bad pass in '12 semis, won every final 1920-1956 (setting World Records in most), then blew a pass in 1960 and were DQed. Won again 1964-1976, were boycotted out of 1980, won '84, blew a pass in '88 heats, won in '92, were outrun by Canada in '96, won in '00.

      World Champs:
U.S. men won 1983-93, blew passes in '95 and '97, won in '99 and '01.

Thanks for the great information. I'm now looking for a story or news article about the 1988 event....

I'll try some national paper archieves, if you have other ideas, I'd appreciate it!

        thanks

Was '88 the relay that had the Russ Rogers influence?

If you really want to research the 1988 debacle, find an article from the (now defunct) "National" magazine/newspaper circa 1989 that went into great detail about the whole affair. I recall it to be a very interesting article - I may even have saved a copy in my old archives.

Thanks for the kind words, but lotsa people would. The key in life, as jsquire has pointed out (repeatedly) is not necessarily knowing things, it's know where to find things. That and having access to a rather decent set of research tools makes it relatively easy for me to be able to answer questions like that. That must be why I pay me the big bucks :-)

GH don't forget about the 1979 and 1981 World Cups
(with last second replacements due to injuries)

With regard to the women remember at the first world championships the women didn't get past the first round due to bobbled stick work. Then in 1991 the first exchange did not go through. Then in 1999 Nanceen Perry a lst minute replacement for the injured Marion Jones did not take off on her go mark to get a precise exchange. GH any other one you can think of?
