  • Wariner wins!

Time was surprisingly slow at 44.71. Multiple runners in the field had run faster this year.

I guess he only ran as fast as he had to?

Only surprisingly slow because I know he's capable of more. In an event of this magnitude I expected the winning time to be sub 44.50, considering how good the field was.

I'm not knocking 44.71 AT ALL. But he ran 44.48 when DQ'ed in the Big 12 meet, and 44.50 in the Regional. I don't see anything strange about thinking he might run faster.

No, I fully understand. It was just funny how you said it. He is capable of running much faster, as were the other competitors. But he was stronger today.

Ya think there could be a link between 44.48 and being DQ's for running INSIDE the lane? Nah, pure coincidence.

I hope he can continue to run well after finishing up at Baylor. So much talent has been squeezed from guys from Baylor and did not do well on the next level. I hope he and Darold can help make the professional circuit more interesting when the time comes.

Didn't they always accuse Mennea doing the same thing.

You and I are probably the only ones who still remember who Mennea is, since '96.

With Johnson being the exception to the rule.

Yeah, he's been the ONLY one. Maybe because he was a freak of nature or something.

                      Brandon Couts
                      Marlon Ramsey
                      Deon Minor
                      Tony Miller
Darren Strong (actually a 800 meter runner)

There are more, but these are the ones that stand out the most that did run on the next level.

Wariner took one errant step in the next lane, that is all. It was a legit 44.48 all the way.

Maybe you think the 44.50 was a fluke too?
