I saw little in his return last year that makes me think that Tyson is a threat for anything except for bronze, and even getting to the Final is not certain. Not sure why his return was so mediocre (by his standards) last year, since he was returning from a ban, not an injury. It might just be strategy - he is known to be 'fragile' and there was nothing to be gained by pushing last year - we will soon see.

Until someone actually beats Bolt in a Championship, I will continue to favor him...

        Bolt: 9.72
        Gatlin 9.74
        Bromell 9.80

As I said in the other thread, Gatlin will probably dominate this season, while Bolt will probably win the Championship.

What has Ryan Baliey done in the past 2-3 years to be considered a medal contender?

I would look at athletes like Bailey Cole or Ashmeade as medal contenders.

Also, everyone should be careful if Kim Collins is able to run for his country again. He has been "out" since 2011 and only improving!

Curiously, how is Ryan Bailey doing? I have seen a lot of people putting faith in him but i am not yet convinced he has what it takes to make the next step to push the top 5 athletes as yet.

              What are his recent results?

He set a new pb this year in the 60 m dropping 0.08 from his previous ....I think his form and length can be a factor for him to.medal ...and I would like to see something new in sprinting this year ...And besides this year compared to before he seems pretty splid ...and with and improved start

To make the Jamaican team I'd put Julian Forte over Bailey-Cole right now but if Bailey-Cole makes it I'd say he's more likely to medal than Forte. The Jamaican and American trials should be interesting as there are at least 7 Jamaicans and 5 Americans who theoretically could make the final in Beijing if it was possible. The picture isn't the same to that of the women.

Without times I'd say Bolt, Gatlin and KBC. I wouldn't discount a fit Dasaolu or Vicaut for the bronze. Richard Thompson I'm not sure. After a good season last year he didn't make the commonwealth final which KBC went on to win (with Gemili beating Ashmeade).

It's interesting that you have Bromell running that fast so late in the year given the college season he has ahead of him, but I wouldn't be surprised at what this guy can achieve this year and next. He is the future of American sprinting

Several interesting comments here. First, it will have been a vvveeerrryyy long season for Bromell because of his collegiate seasons, each with peaks, followed by a peak for USATF, running the circuit, and then the WCs (if he makes it that far). It would be good for him to get to the Worlds, even if he is too far past his peak by then because it will provide him for the dress rehearsal of the Olympics next year. World Juniors, NCAAs, and even USATF are just not the same.

Almost forgot my second comment; this thread is another illustration of the active (and knowledgeable) participation from a group of new posters. It is work (but worth it) trying to build up the memory of what different posters as saying and what their background might be (sprint specialist for many of them, Jamaican-interested for many - no surprise at the crossover there). Spammer is now a 'seasoned' poster (and listed as a Senior Member already).

Don't discount the Japanese runner Kiryu (as noted in the parallel Bolt vs Gatlin thread).

I would have mentioned Vicaud too, but he seems to get injured every time he comes back, lately, so I'm despairing a bit. Fingers crossed for him though!

The times proposed here are insane. Way too many 9.7x and 9.8x... The odds of it being that fast a race are not actually that great. But if it is that fast, I don't think Kiryu or Dasaolu or Vicaut would stand a chance. If it's a bit slower (and it's likely to...) then...
