  • Joe Detmer 4:12.40 Deca 1500.. what's the best?

anybody have on hand a top 10 list of Deca 1500s? Detmer's today sure has to be among the best in recent years anyway..

terrible placing overall (lacks strength it seems), but that along with a 47.34 400 are pretty impressive from an all around athlete..

    sophomore too

actually is there a top 10s list for all deca events anywhere?

I know most of the Wisconsin decathletes and I never knew he was training for the decathlon. He's typically done the longer sprint events in the past 400's, 600's, 800's. He's run a 1:17 and change in the 600 which I believe is the fastest by an american this year. I don't think he spent much time actually training for the decathlon. His throws and pole vaulting performances can attribute to this. With some practice in these events he could be very competitive next year.

The fastest 1500m within a (credible) decathlon is 3:58.7 by Robert Baker. For some of the better scoring decathlons, the top 1500m times are:

      4:05.05 - Herbert Peter (8147)
      4:09.07 - Kip Janvrin (8017)
      4:11.07 - Deszo Szabo (8436)
      4:12.14 - Jiri Ryba (8339)
      4:12.61 - Bruce Jenner (8634)
      4:12.68 - Juri Kutsenko (8519)
      4:12.80 - Mihhail Romanjuk (8212)
      4:13.30 - Leonid Litvinenko (8141)
      4:13.67 - Ryszard Malachowski (8437)

And there's probably loads more out there. A great site for decathlon stats is:
