  • Help! NCAA all-American?

Currently, the top 8 American finishers in each event in the NCAA championships earn all-American honors. Has this always been the case? I was particulurlay interested in 1982. Was the same criteria used in the NCAA's in that year?

Actually, the top 8 finishers are All-American as are the additional Americans it takes to get 8 Americans. For example, an individual event could have up to 16 A-A's in one NCAA meet (if the top 8 are non-Americans).

I beleive it used to be top six but I am not sure when/if it changed.

In 1982, it was the top 6 that were All-American. When that changed, and went to 8, I'm not sure.
