  • Can anyone beat this (non-T&F post)......

    ...for the worst sporting weekend?

Friday: Stay up until 2.30am and watch world champion rugby team, England, thrashed by New Zealand's All-Blacks, 36-3.

Saturday: Waste 4 hours at most boring sporting event ever witnessed, Janet Evans Swim Meet.

    Sunday: (Doubleheader)

Morning: Go to pub to watch England vs. France in Euro 2004 soccer match. England winning 1-0 most of match. Becks misses penaly with 10 mins to go; stupid foul results in French equalising with 1 minute to go. Three minutes of injury time; our best player screws up a backpass resulting in French penalty with 30 secs to go. France win 2-1.

Evening: Watch LA Lakers throw away another game to go down 1-3. Kobe refused to pass to Shaq; possible end of this era in LA.

Just the opposite, dear fellow: Watched Denmark and Italy tie 0-0 this evening; then watched Sweden crush Bulgaria 5-0 tonight with Henke Larsson scoring twice in one minute... we will see what happens from here on out, though.

I was very surprised how many people here were cheering for England to win yesterday:s match... it was a sad site to see Zidane come through like that in the last seconds...

Three days, six matches, and we are not even close to sorting things out yet! I can not imagine watching 45 hours of track in three days! (At least I won:t admit it!)

Well, Mark, at least England thrashed the Kiwis in cricket by 4 wickets, at my old ground, Trent Bridge in Nottingham. England even have some good bowlers for a change.

However, that football match was pretty grim. Reminded me of the Man United vs. Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final in 1999 with the same scenario.

Except I was gloating after that match! This time was faced with cars full of French guys yelling abuse and laughing at us on Santa Monica Blvd...

True. At least the England players weren't lying around the pitch in tears after the match as those poor old BM players were that night.

Remember it is only the first round and England should make to the knockout stage.

I can't either, but that's mainly because there are only 72 hours in 3 days. 450? I've no idea what you're talking about.

The dictionary definition of Cruel and Unusual Punishment: "cars full of French guys yelling abuse and laughing at us on Santa Monica Blvd..."

                      Just say non!

Good old Beckham! He can always be relied upon to screw up when it really matters. Am I the only one to remember him as the dumb s**t who got suckered into a foul and lost England its best shot at the World Cup since 1966?

I actually didn't feel guilty staying home from work Monday as I did have a head cold and my son was recovering from a tummy bug so we settled in to watch the England/France game and were quite happy till the wheels came off at the end. We were in shock. Sorry Mark.

I don't think Becks screwed up. You have to make a decision and once in a while the goalie picks the same as you. It happens. Oh and isn't Fabian Barthez just about the best there is in goal? I think so.

Yo GH. I used to think soccer was not worth watching until I got into the World Cup in '90. To watch it played at the highest level is truly a thing of beauty. You just have to take the time.

I still think watching the first 22 laps of a track 10k can be pretty stupifying. Don't know if I'll ever got over that.

Sorry, but Becks telegraphs everything he is about to do because everything he does is all about BECKS.

Did you ever watch Gordon Banks or Peter Bonetti play?

I thought about that just as I went to bed last night and had already turned off the computer ... 45 hours of football (soccer) -- 90 min matches x 6 matches = 45 hours ... one too many digits.

Mark -- you jinxed things -- Clemens was handed his first loss last night.
