Thank you, folks. I'll be working here at the lovely downtown Ramada Inn all week.

Thanks for the info on the posts...I tried helping to usher in a new era, but that apparently was passed long, long ago.

Here(below) is the message where gh says good-bye to darkwing. Note the time he says they will start. Turns out his message and my post are both wrong. I found the 17th thread and it started at 8:27am PST that day. It is also below. I am pretty sure that some comedian bumped the first thread to the top a little while ago. If the search function allowed one to search within 2003(you really should make that change Ben and yes I will email you), I could find it.

    "Friends,

To quote Bilbo Baggins: "I regret to announce that--though, as I said,
eleventy-one years is far too short atime to spend among you--this is the
END. I am going. Iam leaving NOW. GOOD-BYE."

It's with great sadness that I say farewell to THE List. While I can't
remotely claim to be an original contributor, or one of of anything
approaching eleventy-one years, I'm at least mildly surprised to note that
it's 6-odd seasons that I've been babbling away here.

But T&FN's slow progress into the e-world (by choice) has now gotten to the
point where we will take the huge step of opening our own message board.
Which leaves me at the point where sheer business sense (as the boffins have
frankly said to me, "why give away your thoughts when they can be of some
business value to the T&FN site?) demands that I leave this wonderful group
of people and devote my online energies elsewhere.

Starting at noon tomorrow (that's Wednesday the 16th in my parlance), you
can go to www.trackandfieldnews.com and sign up for our message board.

The track world has no shortage of boards these days, many/most filling some
little niche that needs to be filled. Hopefully, ours won't be carrying
coals to Newcastle; we'll break some new ground. The one thing we hope our
board will be--compared to most/all others--is FAST. Time will tell, but we
like to think we have the server capacity to provide the quickest messaging
going. And you'll get the collected wit and wisdom of both T&FN staff and
    our most revered of correspondents.

I truly hope that the emergence of this board--which will go in whatever
direction the posters choose to take it, but will hopefully remain centered
on "elite" track--doesn't negatively impact this list, which certainly
stands as a shining beacon among track-chat facilities. But yes, we'll try
    to do better.

I hope to see some/many/all of you over there. Electrons after all, as guru
Jim Dunaway likes to point out, are free. No reason you can't be here and
    there.

I, sadly, will only have time to be there. The road goes ever on and
    on......

    gh

Once again, accuracy is an important part of this sport. April 16th at noon-pacific time I think.

When were these boards launched? Can't remember when I found them but it must have been about a year ago...ok, you two, first to answer !

The reason I am not sure is because there is a message that was posted on June 11th on the historical board that is number 65425-which means 1800 messages in four days which I don't think is right.

I know what you are basing that on Jon and I was going to say the same thing but go hit reply to a Historical message and look at the message number-it is only 65000 and change. I decided not to make a definitive comment on it because of that. Seems hard to believe that they have deleted that many messages.
