    Ignoring Albuquerque, Provo and Boise as altitude-hindered sites (and as you go through the results you can see the hiccup each time the meet is there), Mulvaney's 3:44 was the slowest win since.... 1959!

    Although to show you how American miling was turning around at that point, the time would have won every nationals from 1959 back to the beginning.

    It's a simple case of a championship race where , given the heat and humidity, no one had the guts (Like Paul Cummings did in Austin in the 1974 meet) to go out at a good pace....quickly became a kickers race.
