  • 2015 London DL Day 2

    The men pole vault is happening right now before the tv event starts (which is pretty sucky, imo, esp. since RL seems to be back in form, and he's a recognizable face)

    As I write, Barber has just cleared 5.93 on his third try (NR)!
    RL has cleared 5.93 on the first try.

    The two of them are the last ones standing and this looks to be a mighty battle!

    The both passed at 5.98 ! It's gonna be a 6+ meters showdown!

      Feeling for Barber rn. RL just cleared 6.03 (MR) on his first try. How do you compete when he's in that sort of form?
      In the meantime, Barber had three misses at 6.03. But what a future he's got ahead of him! He'll join the 6-meters club, I believe.

        19-5.5 for Barber is a great lead-in to Beijing. Can he get LoJo's 5.98 CR next (this?!) year?

          With 2 vaults, and the women's being a DL event, they had no choice. If it helps explain some of the rationale, note that DL rules mandate that the field events (of the DL variety) are supposed to end before the TV window closes. (that's only good marketing, not to go off the air with something up in the air) Which is why all DL meets have orphaned some significant field events to start outside the tight 2-hour TV window.

                  In the final round of the Long Jump. Shara Proctor gets out to another NR (along with Asher-Smith) of 6.98!

                    Schippers matches with a 10.99 just ahead of Okagbare in 11.00. I did think Schippers pushed it more but let's see what happens in the final.

                      6.98 = 22-10¾

                        Van Niekerk looked awesome. Time slowish, but he looks like a super talent.

                          Distance markers are obviously wrong in the wSP. Why would they put out 18m and 20m markers when those lines are nowhere near that far?

                            20m line at the SP sector is actually 19m line... So sad to see something like that at this level
