And the weakness of Orwell's quote is that everyone believes they own the truth when the truth is an oil-slicked pig in a mudpuddle.

        Use it. Nothing's truly original.

well this discussion is getting ridiculous. some posters here are obviously quite confused; worse, they are the most self-righteous about it, even professing to tell "the truth" like some prophets of doom.

chand and semenya cases have nothing to do with pistorius or rehm, as much as you'd like to rant about lefties destroying the world. if you have a problem with those two prosthetic-wearing boys, go take it up with the iaaf. the vast lefty PC conspiracy has nothing to do with it.

jenner also has nothing to do with this discussion. in case you haven't noticed, ms. jenner is a transgender woman, which is not the case with chand. she's not trying to change herself into something else. on the contrary, she is fighting to be who she is. in short, transgender is not intersexed. i hope this is not to hard for your thick skulls.

where did I ever claim to speak some profound truth ?.. I offered no opinion on any of these matters,

I simply found Taurs post refreshing as it spoke some obvious facts about a situation that is mired in political news speak and double think.

The only thing worse than someone fixated on a myopic one dimensional world view that he crams everyone into, is the self righteous statist that demolishes every persons perception of the obvious in order maintain their priestly control of them.

By the way Jumbo, why should anyone have a blind spot when it comes to science ? The man of science must first and foremost be an honest man. His next attribute should be curiosity. The rest is corollary.

What I'm saying is that all political persuasions claim to have science on their sides, but they selectively ignore science as they see fit. Whether it is climate science on the right or GMOs and animal testing on the left.

I am not saying that Chand, Semenya, Pistorius, Rehm, Jenner and Richards (as in tennis Renee) are the same. Of course, their issues are separate, distinct and individual.

But their situations are reflective of the broader issue as to what defines a "normal" woman and what defines a "normal" man in terms of having a level playing field for sport.

I do not know the specific details of Chand and Semenya. And I don't want to know. Both of those individuals have conducted themselves with the greatest integrity and humility through what must be a harrowing process. All I know is that it was alleged through the media that TNF officials considered they were not 100% biologically "normal" females. Whether they are, or are not, is for others to decide.

I believe women's athletics should be for "normal" biological women. The definition of a "normal" woman I leave to the experts on that subject, something I am not. However, I will always remain of the opinion that a woman who has internal male testes does not meet the standard of being defined as a "normal" woman for the purposes of sport.

In terms of the Pistorius and Rehm situation, their abilities and performances on the sporting field are also too be admired. But they should not be allowed to compete in sport against "normal" non-technology enhanced athletes. Next thing we will have a person with an amputated arm wanting to be allowed to compete as a "normal" shot putter with his Steve Austin zillion dollar arm.

I applaud equality of marriage between human beings, regardless of sexual orientation. We are, and the laws should reflect that we are, all equal as human beings - but we asre all different. And this is all about define different in terms of who should be allowed to compete as a woman and as a man.

And in the case of trans gender the case of Renee Richards poses a problem because in 1977 Judge Ascione of the New York Supreme Court ruled that:

                1. Richards was now a female
                2. Requiring Richards to pass the Barr body test was grossly unfair, discriminatory and inequitable, and a violation of her rights.
                3. The USTA intentionally discriminated against Richards,

Ascione granted an an injunction against the USTA and the USOC allowing Richards to play in the US Open. And while that may be 40 years ago what is the USATF and USOC going to do if a moderate ability male athlete decides he wants an Olympic Gold Medal come he or high water (or surgical reconstruction) and declares himself to be a female.

I don't give a toss what anyone says. But while I am sure Bruce / Caitlyn considers him/her self to be a woman the biological fact remains he is a man , with or without his bits and pieces. And therefore, if Bruce / Caitlyn wants to compete in the Masters it can only be as a man.

Déjà vu. See the thread below where we all covered this before.

93% of Americans believe GMO foods should be labeled. 50% of Repubs think they are unsafe, 60% of Ind, 63% of Dems. GMOs are hardly a leftist issue.

67% of Americans want animal testing involving cosmetics stopped. That probably includes a good amount on the right.

Have you ever wondered if other top women have internal testes? I am sure there are plenty.

High performance sports is game of have and have-nots. Hyperandrogenism is just one example of countless separators. It might mean that a some women are competing for one less medal. Is that a big deal? Thousands of men are competing every day without a chance in hell of winning anything.

I doubt that. They would have high testosterone levels that would show on standard testing.
