  • Stockholm DL [now underway]

The meet started today with a few Shot Put events including the womens DL.

Schwanitz won it with 20.13 as the only one over 20m.

Adams was only 4th with an 18.69 in the 2nd round and then found all remaining rounds.

It has been already a month since Adams first competition in Paris. She didn't improve in any of the meetings in which she threw (four times, Paris, London, Stockholm, Luzern). Now she has a month of training ahead of her but she needs to find at least one meter to be a possible medalist and almost two to be a fighter for the victory. I don't think she will be in Beijing.

She has three times achieved more or less exactly the same result throughout the whole July. That won't change for Beijing, she apparently simply didn't have enough time to build up more power. She won't win the title and she won't win a medal.

        EDIT: Sasuke was faster.

You really think she won't compete?
If she does indeed choose to opt out of competing, WHEN do you think she'll announce it?
In the next few days.....or just prior to the WC?

Just prior to the WC. I think she will be back in heavy training very soon. The, in 3 weeks she could see in what shape she is. But I am sure she won't compete if she can't throw at least 19mid. What would the point be for her to go to Beijing without even throwing 19 metres? It's not a pleasant place either, many national teams are going to stay outside Beijing (also in Japan for example) and to go to the city just a couple of days before their competition.

You may be right, but I'd bet she will be there and be close to Bronze, if not there. Lots of people get tense at the WC Final; she certainly won't - she literally has nothing to lose. It will be a public-relations boon for her to show up knowing she's not even picked to medal.

                "fouled" I assume.
                Michelle Carter 19.24.
Tim Nedow won the men's with 20.78.
                Cheers,

Women's TJ starts at 7 AM, PDT, men's DT 8:20, W PV 10:25, also a bunch of B, C and D races. Looks like the TV segment begins, as usual, with 400H (women this time) at 11:00, winding up with the W 100 (SAFP and Bowie featured) at 12:50.

The broadcast on beIN is at 11:00 PDT, so not delayed like some of them have been.
The meet won't live up to Paris, Lausanne and Monaco (we got really spoiled), but should be some good stuff.
                  Cheers,
                  Alan Shank

Queen Val told me at the weekend that she won't be in Beijing just to make up the numbers. She obviously isn't expecting to get back to her old form but will want to be competitive if she's going to make an appearance.

Hopefully she can get in the mix.

Yes, she can be competitive - for places 4-6. If the top 3 women throw to form, I don't really see her medalling.

She needs to get to 19.5-20.0 for a shot at the bronze. She's not there, yet, but it is possible she can get there from where she is in a few weeks.

But as pointed out above, she's had a few competition over a month's period now, and there's been no sign of progress from her. I'd have more confidence in Adams if she improved over the course of the season.
