  • Pan Am Juniors

A bit of a dead period for track, so why not.

A few notes from the first morning session:

Ecuadorian Angela Tenorio DQed from the 100M. Pity - I like her.

Desiree Freier DNS in pole vault

Harrison Williams looking good in Decathlon

USA 400M runners not looking particularly sharp.

I think it's really hard to train for this, being so late in the season and not the highest competition, but if you accept the team offer, you should honor it.

Freier injured her ankle in warmups.

And to be fair, the 400 folks didn't need a whole lot of effort to advance. Golden and Ellis ran sub-54.

The guy doing the commentary is very effective at rambling. It might be(?) better than dead air but not by much.

Apparently, Cuba is BECOMING a power in the horizontal jumps.

I always hate to be critical of a free product, especially when it's the only game in town.
But.... had to scratch my head for quite a bit of his "technical analysis"

Agreed. I should be fair as some of his commentary was okay though I don't think he's knows the throws quite like he thinks he does. I'm very far from an expert in those events but even I know switching the feet is actually commonly referred to as a reverse. I did not hear until signoff that his partner doing the commentary was Perdita Felcien.

Williams cleared 5.00 in the vault, 5cm and 16 points less than his performance in Eugene. On to the Jav.

Just started a separate thread for her.
                  Thought it deserved one!

According to the official results, Cuba's Yuleimis Aguilar set a World Junior Record with the Javelin (63.86) on her initial throw. Doesn't seem to have attracted much attention here.

This was with the same javelin weight as used by pro's, right?
If so, she gets the Age 18 record.
Her birthdate is listed in Athletics Annual as August 3, 1996.
So this happened on her last day as an 18 year old!!
