  • Official US team for Beijing announced

    Link on the front page.

A couple of questions: Nellum is not running the 400 and only three men for the 400, gotta be a mistake.
And the next one: 200 and 400 for Verburg?

At least verify the list before making it official.

Maybe theyv'e upgraded the link: as it currently opens none of those glitches are there.

Felix in the 200m? I thought Bob Kersee said, she would only run the 400m?

It lists 3 others in the 200, so it's a no-harm, no-foul to list her as well, keeping her options open. And since McCorory is already on the team in the 4x4, she will be in town and can be tabbed for 400 duty if Felix has last-minute change of mind. (assuming she's listed as the alternate that is!)

Wilson is listed on the team for the 800. Is it too late to replace her and add the next runner since she apparently won't be running?

Or is a list that shows the alternates released at some point?

Pretty sure they originally listed only four athletes in the 4x100m, was that a mistake or the final likely line up?

                Ludlow has accepted Wilson's spot.

The listing for the relays don't matter except for athletes not in individual events.

Merritt is not listed for the 4x4 and Rodgers isn't for the 4x1
But Clements, MaClain and others are only listed as running their respective relays.
If your in Beijing competing, you can run which ever relay and any leg they want you too.

There must have been a (really) bad roster floating around out there at some point. Somebody else just told me they saw listing with Sharon Day-Monroe in the HJ.

The press release does not say anything about athletes that could be invited from the performance list (for example Kertura Orji in the women's triple jump). Also per the conversation on another thread the listing of Rodney Brown in the men's discus seems completely at odds with the qualifying procedures as written.

I know I butchered Keturah Orji's name, but I can't seem to edit/delete or for that matter even quote on the computer I am on at this moment.

It's not at odds with the procedures. The procedures say that USATF "may solicit" invitations on behalf of ranked athletes lacking the qualifying standard, not that it "shall solicit." As things turned out, there was no procedure for soliciting invites prior to USATF's deadline for selecting the team.

Once selection is made on the basis of qualifying standards, the part of the rule that says USATF "shall accept" invites to ranked athletes based on finish at USAs is irrelevant because IAAF is not going to extend invites in events where the team has been filled out.

This is not original with me; rather, an extension of what norunner has been saying for quite a while.

I think this new system is causing problems for several IAAF departments because it depends on the IAAF getting ALL results from all over the world in time. With the old system the IAAF didn't need to collect any results because the local federations did the job for them and sent the entry marks with their selection lists.
Finnish hammer thrower David Söderberg threw the standard on the 10th of august, last day possible. The 76.03m he threw are missing from the IAAF world list, but since the Finnish federation must have sent them their final team by now, some department of the IAAF must have that result. But if they base the invites on their world lists and those are incomplete, there's going to be trouble, someone who deserves an invite isn't going to get one.
I get the feeling that the usual bigheads thought of the new system without any regards as to whether it's feasible and the workerbees have no idea how to do it properly.

They are too busy responding to Robert Harting.
