And that 42.20 for the women's 4x100 is way too high

I'd think both the discus winning marks will be much higher, expecially women's. Perkovich and Caballero has already thrown 70+ this year and the first one usually peaks at major championships. I think she will break 70m again for the victory. On the men's side, Malachowski seems ready to throw much farther than 66m which is a measure many throwers can get in a good day. I'd say 70m for women and 68m for men.

Probably meant 41.20 which is very realistic for both USA and Jamaica.

I'm not sure that that's not just a bit optimistic for a windless bowl like the Bird's Nest.

              I'd love to be wrong!

                That was my reasoning.
The w4x1 indicates my skepticism of competent passing by Jam or US.

But does either need to? 14:30 is a bold time, 14:09 is nuts.

Beijing in the summer, do you really think that you are going to get fast times in championship distance races? I would not be surprised if every one of the distance marks is slower - the shortest races (SC) have the greatest likelihood, since those are not all that fast and because in the men's race there may be people that want to take it out fast (more likely the Kenyans will want to try to out-kick Jager, which would have worked in the past but did not look like it would work in the fastest race of the year - what would have been 7:57 for Jager except for the slight catch of the last barrier).

I invite you to read the parenthetical remark in my opening post!
I think there's just too much pride at stake to let the pace dawdle. I could be . . . loony!

I didn't think I was being overly 'enthusiastic', but yes, it will depend on how much smog there is.

So AN American will win at 2.38?

Bolt's going to shave a second off his best time of the season (to be fair: 0.65s), and reach a level he hasn't hit in 3 years? I guess it's going to be a heck of a WC...
