  • 2015 Beijing World Champs Thread: Weather, Schedule, Interviews Etc

I know gh will make a dedicated forum for the World Championships in the next few days. Aside from the event thread, I think that TV schedule and a few others will be moved over.

IIRC, in past years there was also a random thread where people can discuss things not related to a certain event, such as the question I'm about to ask.

What is this statue on the backstretch? Is this staying during the Champs? So those who would've liked seats on the backstretch couldn't buy since it wasn't available?

Interesting. According to this it was available but the entire top tier of the stadium was not.

Had no idea Daegu 2011 with its seats covering would be a role model for other LOCs to look up to...

For me, it's the time difference between Beijing and WA state (I'm in Bellingham.).
      There's a 15 hour (!!) difference!
So the Men's Marathon (1st event) starts at 7:35 a.m. of 8/22 in Beijing.
But it starts at 4:35 p.m. of 8/21 here in B'ham!!

Thus, the morning sessions of one day will be on the afternoon/evening of the day before for me!

Reminds me of when I switched from day or swing shift to graveyard shift...and back again!!

      PREPARE!!

Yes, West coasters will be fine for the morning sessions but will need to rise quite early or DVR the evening session.

Mentioned it in the streaming thread, IAAF and YouTube will live stream the World Championships for the first-time.

Yes after Osaka (07) and Daegu (11) I told my self that I couldn't do another nine days in a row of getting up at 330 AM. At least with USN the weekday sessions I could watch with some delay on DVR.

I would not be surprised if the Youtube streaming is geo restricted and those in the US won't be able to watch it.

If that is the case, there are easy work around however such use of a free VPN.

I am certainly not above doing that! I'd pay (reasonably) to watch, but I have found no such option.

"Hola" is a free VPN that works great with Google Chrome. Just look for it in the "extension" section of google chrome and add it.

Does the link work in Canada when you click on one of the live streams? Or does it say "not available in your country"
Bolt's last year...and my last year as a track fan, it's been fun

It has a countdown clock and says please stand by. So I'm guessing it works.

I can click on any of the YouTube links and it indicates that it is "not available in your country" (USA).

It seems like this problem does occur if you are surfing from the USA. I can only confirm that the link works in Germany, Finland and Canada so far. But that is still very good news. I will try to figure out some of the other countries it works in .
