Two US finalists. Has that happened before in a world champs?

You can answer that (for all events) by going to this page in our Archive:

              http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/ind...plus-americans

but for this event the answer is that only twice—Karin Smith 10th in '83, Rachel Yurkovich 12th in '09— has the U.S. had even one finalist.

Exciting finish. Kathrina Molitor (GER) wins it on the last throw of the competition with a PB 67.69 (222-1). Huihui Lyu (CHN) had taken the lead in the 5th round with a PB & National Record 66.13 (to great cheers from the home crowd).

Since Miss Lyu was recently away for a year due to a doping ban, it's all the better that Molitor took the gold.
I wonder however what the problem was with Spotakova. The first two rounds were really bad for most of the athletes, only two women made their best attempts here and then got better from the 3rd onward. But Spotakova went out with a whimper, any injury problems?
The other mommy, Obergföll performed very well considering the previous season while Christin Hussong who is five years younger than the next oldest competitors looks like the next great German javelin woman.

Sportakova was my pick but I don't know why she bombed in the final only 60 m!

Apparently Spotakova isn't with Zelezny anymore. She said she doesn't have a coach, stayed in Beijing too long and missed her family. Seems like she just didn't want to be there. She is normally the woman likely to win gold with the last throw, but it seems the fire just wasn't there this year.

DNA testing of both Yego and Molitor has uncovered the so-called 'Stud Gene' in both of them. It is epigenetic, in that it is only expressed under the duress of a World Championship final, and its most obvious effect is a massive infusion of fast-twitchedness in the shoulder motor neurons.

Gotta get me some a that for my kids!

sort of interesting why her name is spelled LYU. anyone who knows anything of pinyin would think it should be LIU.
