  • Highest jump ever attempted?

This random question popped into my head so I thought I'd put it out there.

What is the highest high jump ever attempted "legitimately" in competition.
Obviously if I wanted to I could just go out and "attempt" 10 feet. But I would obviously have no chance to clear it.
I know 2.46 has been attempted. But did Soto ever try higher? Anyone?
Same question goes to the pole vault if anyone happens to know the answer.

Thanks, and have a great weekend all.

I believe the highest attempt was Bondarekno, 2.47m, London 2013.

Didn't Lavillenie try 6.21 after clearing 6.16 at Donetsk?

IIRC, Lawrence Johnson attempted 21' 6.40 after his 5.97 PR.

6.40?! I understand confidence in your abilities but Really? That's not realistic or rational even after a 5.97 successful clearance. Anybody know why Johnson thought he could clear that outlandish height?
