I guess their defense could be that they thought real testing would start any time, so who would dope knowing that it could start the next day?

What about all those who were doping before knowing they could get tested the next day?

Some infos from Sergej Litvinov, Russians best hammer thrower and bronze medal winner in Zürich 2014 (i have his permission to post this): In october 2015 almost all Russian top athletes were transfered to RUSADA from the IAAF testing pool, which in hindsight was a REALLY smart move. After the suspension of RUSADA some athletes were transfered back to the IAAF testing pool, but all athletes not in that pool have not been tested for three months now. Sergej, despite being a world class hammer thrower, is not in the IAAF testing pool and has not been tested since november. He claims it's the same for all sports.
To sum up: The majority of Russian athletes, including Rio candidates, have not been tested since november and at least T&F athletes knew they weren't going to be tested unless they were added to the IAAF pool.

I don't have alot of confidence even in the testing itself..

I read somewhere that there are more expensive options to test that aren't being conducted because of the price..

Still think it needs way more funding.. Technology still needs to increase alot more to get to the point to provide more accurate testing..

Wow what a disaster the invention of steroids in the 1930's has turned out to be in relation to sports..

I did wonder if this type of scenario would happen. I was convinced that as soon as they were banned, there would be no testing for a while, and it was an 'opportunity' to carry on with whatever doping programme they were on. The big gains are made in the winter season.

Now, if this is as organised as has been suggested, it may be that the system has actually collapsed for now, and it would not be in 'their' (collective they, whoever 'they' are) interest to dope during this period. There has certainly been a drop in standards. But that may be a red herring. Many big names are still nowhere to be seen.
Then again, what would be more embarrassing; Russian athletes turning up in Rio in good form, or Russian athletes turning up in Rio in awful form? Either way, neither look good.

Lashmanova's ban has ended. She will be eligible to defend her Olympic Gold Medal in Rio if the Federation's suspension is lifted, and in the short term, she is eligible to compete and earn money within Russia.

Way to go Seb Coe!! Really cleaning up the sport!!

The odds of Russia being reinstated my drop to zero after tonights new ARD docu. Hajo Seppelt and his team went to Russia again and supposedly found a suspended Russian coach still working with athletes. They were also able to purchase PEDs undercover from the successor to Sergej Portugalov, former head of the Russian medical commission.

They aired a shorter version of the docu earlier today: They filmed a suspended Russian coach training athletes over a period of several days, the new head of RUSADA is scheduling doping tests with athletes whenever the tests are convenient and they got the guy who replaced Sergej Portugalov to offer them PEDs. It seems it is business as usual in Russia, only a few of the names have changed.

Agree - an excellent watch. Leaves one with even greater lowered confidence in Bach, Coe and other sports big wigs. The stench just doesn't go away.
