Just announced by Seb Coe that he has broken his paid links with Nike... not before time. In addition, he has disassociated himself from the sports marketing giant CSM who will not get involved with athletics ( track and field!!) Fropped his role as well as Chair of BOA.

Lots of work to do seb and you wont be needing Food Banks.!!!

Will Coe re-open the bidding, esp. now that he's off the Nike dole, or does quitting Nike get him to keep Eugene? I wonder if Uncle Phil is going to (already has) push(ed) Coe some under-the-table $$$.

Granted this is a slow news day, but this is currently the #4 news story at my local newspaper's website. I don't think any of the rest of the recent scandals have earned a headline.

Contracts are signed, Eugene has already signed contracts to begin construction this summer... it would be challenging to renege on it at this point.

they may well, I'm guessing, just hand the '23 bid to the Swedes. Path of least resistance.

If the coming investigation(and there is one coming - believe it) unearths evidence of Eugene backers greasing palms to land the 2021 championships, contracts won't mean squat.

they'll have to come up with a better smoking gun than the one innocuous e-mail that the BBC dug up.

I mean really, I thought at the time that part of awarding the bid to Eugene was the Council recognizing that Doha won because they bribed enough delegates, not because they were the better bid. So we might as well keep doing the right thing the wrong way and give 2023 to Sweden.

Well it is certainly plausible that Diack was bribed somehow, and that Coe was not in the loop. Nothing damning has come out yet, but there is a ton of information about the corruption of Diack (and possibly others) that has not been released yet, and I am sure that corruption in the bidding process is going to be part of the giant mess.

Sweden may not be interested in hosting 2023. I believe one of the reasons Gothenburg was eager to host 2021 is that that year marks the 400th anniversary of the founding of their city. The WC would be part of a big celebration.

Coe has spoken with sadness about ending the 38 year relationship. He appears to have forgotten the fling with Latin hottie Diadora that lasted a few years in the late 80s / early 90s. The offspring from their relationship included running shoes named after him. Never was a great one for fidelity, our Seb.

I welcome this move by Coe, even though it obviously comes much later than it should have. That seems to confirm that — although he is smart, determined and probably focused — he's really not that good at politics. He served one term in the House of Commons, lost at the next election (no shame there, the party lost) and essentially quit, accepting a peerage, and thus major limits on his political ambitions, a couple of years later. Given his fame and talents, not to mention the level of Conservative backbench competition at the time, he surely could have done better. And now he's in a job where politics — in its broadest sense — is the most important element. I still wish him luck but it will take a political Hercules to clean these Augean stables.

Just curious to know who Seb knockers think should lead IAAF through and out of the current doping and bribery issues.
