  • German news/results 2016

The biggest news of the year: The German federation has lowered almost all selection standards for Rio to match the IAAF standards. Previously the standards were much higher, for example 18.50m wSP vs. 17.75m.

Shawn Barber won the PV meet in Cottbus with 5.77m after having to rent a car in Paris and drive to Cottbus (first time he ever drove a car in Europe) for 10 hours.

Airine Palsyte won the wHJ in Cottbus with an early WL of 1.97, she had good attempts over 2m.

We might actually see some German women in the 200 or 400 for once then!

Barring an injury i think Gina Lückenkemper would have been a safe 200m bet for Rio even with the old standard. Without the fast Brits she may actually win a medal in Amsterdam.

Agreed. That 22.4w was a great run.

You may have Luckenkemper, Freese and Haase in the 200 come Rio, unless Pinto chooses to double. Her first attempt at a 200m last season in Mannheim was very respectable. Then of course Lisa Meyer is a big talent.

After Luckenkempers 22.4w last season, I think I was most impressed with Roleder's 23.35 for bronze at the NCs though! 23.3 is very respectable for a hurdler/heptathlete.

400m still appears to be a problem; you are still struggling to get women under 52.2 secs which is ridiculous really when you have 11.1/11.2; 22.9 and 1:59 women at 100/200/800. I hope Laura Muller keeps progressing at 400 as she is talented, but maybe someone like Weit should really consider moving up from 100/200 to the 400. And let's hope Cremer does better then her recent poor outing indoors.

Klosterhalfen's time is not an ER, she had a male pacemaker.

Rebekka Haase ran 7.17s today in her season opener.
Kristin Gierisch jumped 14.29m also in her first competition of the year.

But now she did it in Karlsruhe, even improving to 4:08:38, twelve days before her 19th birthday.

At the national junior championships, Klosterhalfen took down the 35 year old old GDR national junior record with an impressive solo race, clocking at 2:03:37. She ran unpaced solo rounds of 30, 60 and 91 seconds, so I guess with the proper race she could even attack Hinrikdottir's European junior record.
Next week she's in the national champs 3000m race with Alina Reh and it's possible the next European record goes down since Ennaoui's 9:06:27 looks now pretty soft.

Also at the U20 champs 16year old Keshia Kwadwo ran 7.36s to break the U18 record held by Grit Breuer since 1989. Kwadwo was second behind Chantal Butzek who ran 7.27s.
Yesterday Julian Reus equalled the German 60m record for the second time this season in Chemnitz with 6.53s.

Unbelievable sprinting during the first day of the German indoor NCs in Leipzig:

Tatjana Pinto 7.07s over 60m, her previous PB was 7.23
                        Julian Reus 6.52s NR/EL
Cindy Roleder 7.88s EL over 60H

Who is the new commentator on Eurosport Germany? Seems like he had never watched athletics until last year.

Again Klosterhalfen went for the record right from the starting bell knocking down the old EJR in a solo run by 10 seconds. So she's triple national junior record holder on all distances between 800m and 3000m as well as double EJR holder over 1500m and 3000m.
