      Re: Bekele Beats Geb!

the iaaf site has complete results of all grand prix meets including this one at iaaf.org
i wasn't too surprised that geb lost, it was his 10 k in almost two years, but it was surprising he lost a fast race (sub 27 min)

Wow! That is very fast very early. Does anybody know how the race was run? Did they share pacesetting? How many rabbits? Finishing splits?
Was Geb outkicked in the final 4 or was there already a gap? If he was outkicked what was the finishing 400? Is Geb's finish gone or did he work too hard sharing the pace duties (which he doesn't like to do), or maybe Bekele does have the speed to win the biggies - but I want to know how the race was run. What happend to Meb? 29:05 - not too good.

Also, the 800 was awesome - Bungei beat a great field by more that 2 seconds! 1:43.05!

Geb becomes the first ever to break 27:00 four times. He and Tergat and Paul Koech each had three. (Nobody else has two.)

Overall, sub-27:00 now achieved 22 times by 15 guys.

If you go to the T&FN results' page and then look for the Hengelo meet you'll find a link that will give you complete official results, or just go to the iaafhome page (www.iaaf.org) and they have quite a write up on the meet.

Gtfhe guy who beat Geb had an old pr of 27:20+ or therabouts, maybe even 27:35 but it was well over 27:20 I know that. Andfro mwaht I saw the wedather was really quite warm so to go 26:5+ in that heat is amazing.

Of course "debut" at 10K is pretty meaningless frame of reference when you're talking about a guy who has won a World Championship at both 4K and 12K (twice). It's not as if 10K is some mysterious chunk of ground he has never covered before.

That is typical. Somehow, on the rare occasion that the general public notices track, they have been trained to view anything other than a WR as a failure. Well, I guess my entire career has been a failure...

it means that he had no previous pr for the event.
