  • NCAA West

Since Atticus started a thread for the East whatevers, thought I'd start one for the West!
As he said (& I concurred!!), even though I HATE the idea of this whatever it is, I'm following the results!

    But there's a weather delay.
Heard on Twitter there's a tornado watch!!

Before delay, Nick Miller opened with 252-4 in the HT!!
In the Women's JT---completed before the delay, Kaylie Van Loo of Portland U "won" with 167-8, while Liz Brenner of Oregon didn't make it, finishing 17th.
(Was Brenner supposed to be in top 12??)

The W Jav is only in flight #2. They have not started flight #3. Brenner was ranked 89th coming into the competition.

They had horrific weather yesterday. Hopefully they all stay safe. Much of the state of Kansas is under a tornado watch.

      Meet back on!
      Miller passed last 2 throws.

      Oops, spoke too soon.
Apparently back to a weather delay!

It looks like it is a delay that is overly cautious caused by lightening that is passed them and moving away. The current rule allows for little nuance.

In the mean time this last delay will let the heart of the current round of storms make it to Lawrence.

Shamier Little just tweeted that the meet has been cancelled!
She didn't say if it's just for today---or the entire meet!
(Hopefully, it's the latter!! Just send them all to Eugene!!)

ADD: Hannah Cunliffe tweeted the meet's done for today.
Someone else said an updated schedule will be released soon!

Looking at the radar, if they had competed while there were a few stray strikes northeast of them with the storm moving to the northeast they would have gotten some decent competition before the real storm stuff moved in later.

And, no, they cannot cancel the Regional.

So you would do what; just take the athletes from the other regional; draw straws; chose a mechanism that is NOT part of the rules and hence would not withstand a challenge. You are wholly unrealistic.

haven't vetted the comment, but an e-mail I got said this is the seventh year in a row with a significant weather delay at the West Regional

Perhaps that's a sign that even Mother Nature hates regionals. lol
