But when were the relay pools submitted? Before she pulled out of Regionals or after?

Good one Aaronk. I was actually going to mention him as well. Just couldn't come up with an appropriate moniker on the spur.

And what I find further interesting is that is exactly what some of us were talking about in the stands when Cunliffe went down in the 100 and we were trying to figure out who might run that extra leg. Maybe this was simply coach Johnson's way of saying "thank you for your contributions" by making her eligible for what is most likely her final meet as a Duck.

These discussions or arguments about a person's "obligation" or NON-obligation to reveal all reminds me of our beloved government!
When THEY want to keep something from the public, they just don't say anything.
They believe---falsely---that if you don't say anything, the public will lose interest.
But the LESS they say, the MORE this "secret" gets talked about!!

    It's maybe a reverse Catch-22.
    LOL

So, on the one hand it would seem no one "owes" anyone else disclosure about what contributed to Ms. Todd's decision, and on the other hand it seems sensible that folks continue to wonder.

I think differently about the associated programmatic questions. The program at hand is of a publicly-funded university and is vested with expectation not just to win championships but to nurture extraordinary young people so that they thrive and achieve their highest personal potential. If in fact the pattern of programmatic departures is not normal, I think the public at large has a right and in fact a responsibility to know more about why ( i.e. not just us mavens of this obscure discussion board).
I was not at all saying it is inappropriate, unnatural nor unexpected to inquire about why she left so there was no criticism of an inquiry on my part. I was simply speculating on what I thought was the reason or reasons for driving the continued questioning for many (not all) people. I do feel that for many, eventually it's less about the individual- IMO- and more about the institution that may or may not be experiencing a high rate of departure, low retention rates-at least that seems to be the perception. I find no issue with people wanting to know why only commenting on why it was some people continued to press the subject. My comments had nothing to do with a right to know why.

I'm not sure what you are saying is all that different than what I said. By obsession I'll clarify that I'm not speaking of what spurred on the initial inquiries for you or others but rather what's driving the seemingly continued need to know what happened? If there were not other recent instances of early departures from the high profile program, the desire to know what specifically caused her to leave the program would drop dramatically-IMO.

Exactly. Just before she was about to run a high profile athlete - finalist WC LJ, semifinalist WC 100 and relay medalist - withdraws or is stopped from participating brings up a question. Why?
