No "obligation" maybe, but athletes at the highest levels of our sport should be aware of their public---and the public's perception of them!--when they make such a statement as Todd made--no real details!

No, they're not highly paid pro figures (except for Usain! LOL), but they are looked at as idols, inspirations, motivators, etc by younger wannabes!
Thus, something as lacking in specifics as Todd's statement, it calls for more!
If only to END the rumors & speculation by people on MB's!

That is always the case. Declaring it none of our business is stretching it.

That would much larger news. The way Todd was performing she was more like the starting guard or backup QB, at best. It still isn't our business, as much as we'd all like to know the story behind the story.

It's as much our business as it is for any athlete in the public eye. It may be a smaller public, but it is public.

You're wrong. She owes no explanation to you or anyone else. Her life, not yours.

She does not "owe" anyone an explanation. That much I will agree with.

That does not end the curiosity which is what is mostly being expressed on the board.

Saw some tweets from Todd today, but just some bantering with a friend from the plane!

But we can agree it's not your business.

so what then is our business related to track and field athletes?
who their coach is? how they train? where they train? what is their diet? which meets they run in and don't run in? are they injured? what is their injury? why they pass on a jump? why they didn't make a move on the backstretch? why they are running the 100m, but not the 200m?
By your reasoning, it seems that none of it is our business.
But I think it's all fair game for our speculation. Otherwise, there is not much use for this message board.

That's really a discussion that goes FAR beyond the immediate thing concerning Ms Todd.
It goes into what's asked of "public figures"---whether they be movie & TV stars, authors, entertainers of one sort or another, sports stars---and whether there's an "obligation" for them to reveal things most people keep secret---or just share with family & close friends!

It's a whole sociological issue---that's become way more pronounced in this computer age---with its InstaGrams & Twitter & Facebook & such!
There's getting less and less places for people---celebrities!---to hide---or to keep their secrets hid!

There may not be an "obligation"---but maybe there's more and more a NECESSITY---to "spill" about things like what's happening with Todd---for one BIG reason----
so the person in question can make sure the story is told IN THEIR OWN WORDS---and doesn't become---as it has here---a force field of idle speculation, hearsay, and rumor!!

I expect that, eventually, she'll tell the world her reasons for ending her Duck career, but until then, I also expect this "curiosity" to continue---and even get heated up, the longer she stays quiet about it!!

And if she becomes a Pro?
Then, IMO, there DOES open up a certain "obligation" for the person to talk openly to those who support him or her!!
