Someone on Twitter said it's just a season-end announcement. If that's the case, it's the most dramatic one I've seen!

Same. I nearly posted it a half hour ago but like yourself I would have had to use a qualifier. She wrote it in lengthy philosophical fashion and 90% of it seems like a retirement announcement. The only aspect that made me hesitate was when she said something about thanking everyone who supported me this learning season and on to the next.

If she retired I certainly understand it. That 2021 season really stands alone amidst her results. I think she gradually took stock of things throughout the long frustrating 2022 season and sensed she simply didn't have the upside that the Tokyo year hinted at. Subsequent years would likely be improvements over this one but not close to returning to Olympic final level.

Since she's so smart and educated and talented in other areas it's time to move beyond.

The John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships for minority students who intend to pursue a postgraduate degree in athletics administration and is home of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative, a new coach-driven program to create access and opportunity for meaningful employment experience for minority candidates known as Future Leaders.
