Alana Boyd retired today after a successful season.

Boyd's announcement here, with decent summary of her career - 3xOG (2 finals), 3xWC (1 final), 2xComm Game Gold, 4 x NR, 4x national titles). Certainly leaves at a high point with her Olympic 4th in near PR in Rio.

Famously, also the daughter of two Aussie T&F Olympians. Mum Denise was a 200m finalist in 1976 & 1980, and won 8 Comm Games medals (incl. 2 gold), won 11 national titles, and was TFN-ranked 4 years. She set a 200m NR in 1980 (22.35) which still sits #3 on the Aussie all time list. Dad Ray went to 1972 and 1976 OG in PV, won 1982 Comm Games, and won 12 national titles.

Oh and her sister Jacinta was a 6.64m LJer, and her brother, a 5.35 Pver (beating his dad's PR by 5 cms).

Nice career marred by tragic falls in major finals. Could have been so much better with better luck.

I follow her on Instagram and she is always posting pictures and videos of "training" on the track and in the weight room. I use quotations because it seems she is more just keeping in shape than training for competition. Alot with he child on the track and also she is doing coaching on the side apparently.
